Burning Man Weather 2010.....

Hya,

Was my first burn and one thing I was concerned about was the weather... too hot during day, too cold at night.... I am from england and as you know we can not handle the heat too well. I used to hear stories of extreme heat from most visitors to the playa, saying it way too hot there.

Cold was not too bad except for the last night (even for an english guy), it was freezing!! and I was surprised about the heat levels.. they did not seem to bad at all!! Yeah it was hot, but did not seem intolerbale as most people make out.....

What i wondered from all you people which have been going for years to the playa, how did you find the weather this year?? was that normal or does it get a lot hotter than that or a lot colder....

I am thinking of coming again you see.....

ps dust storms were awsome this year :D

This was my 8th year and I'd say the heat this year was milder than other years. The dust this year was milder than other years. But the cold this year was more than other years. The two days before the event started, it was cold all day long...I actually wore long sleeves while doing heavy work, which I have NEVER done on the playa before. Some years it has been much colder at night, but I have never had it be that cold in the day time, except for our last day 3 years ago.

I have to say... we were awesomely surprised at the wonderful weather... it was nothing like we heard it could be. YEA 2010 - Best Burn EVA!

yep, 2010 was not a typical weather year. this year was my third in a row and it was a lot less hot during the day. the dawns were a lot colder too which made me scurry to my tent and not see as many sunrises as i wanted.

It was a cool year during the event. Low on whiteouts as well.

Saturday was bitter cold with the storm front passing through.

The week before was epic hot with record high temperatures.

This happens when we transition from an El Nino to a La Nina cycle, about every 10 to 12 years.

'Twas like 99/00. If patterns are to be given any credibility in climate observations, next year could be a scorcher like 01 was.

The weekend before the event opened was unusually cold and for the first time ever (for me), we had a few minutes of snow falling (about 3:00 am). Also had long periods of rain, soaking the ground and leaving puddles on tarps. The following week was far milder than normal but the soaking rain helped keep the dust down for much of the week.

The coldest temp recorded was 39.5 @6:30 on Tues Morning.
Warmest was 95.0 at 3:40 on Friday afternoon

We had a good bit of rain pre-event, enough to make setting up a pain in the ass. Tuesday morning we had ice ion our puddles on the roof. I wished I had my parka.

Very unusual this year.

Good to hear about the snow. We thought we were imagining it.

I have been three years and have never experienced a particularly hot day. What annoys me is since it is typically well over 100F at home when I'm packing, I forget to pack for cold nights. Brrrr.
