First time from houston

My name is Jennifer, and my sister and I have wanted to attend burningman for years, and this will be our first year, we are from Houston, TX. I'm very excited. Probably more than I ever have been about anything in my life! I would like some feedback, as to what everyone thinks the best method of transportation to Burningman from Texas, specifcally is?

Hi MissAliceAddams. Welcome. Houston has a HUGE burner community. Many of them revolve around that art car thingy going on there.
You can fly to Reno and rent a car, or you can make a nice road trip out of it. You will see lots of cars and trucks heading in the same direction.

You have good reason to be excited. This is like nothing you have ever experienced before. (well, I assume. I don't know what you've done.) But you will have a blast.

Do you have your tickets yet?

Hello Miss! we live in central texas and we are driving up. very small old probably last trip ever travel trailer and an old pickup. We plan on stopping at the grand canyon on the way up. Hubby has never been outside Texas. he was born and raised in galveston (boi).

Wow. And you're going to Burning Man. Very cool. Do you know where you're camping? Or just gonna' find a spot when you get there? If you don't mind me asking, and hijacking the topic for a moment, what is it that makes you want to go?

Hey, MissAliceAddams, what are you going to bring? You want to buy everything in Reno, or bring it with you from Texas. Where in Texas you from?

Driving means you can bring all of your equipment, but it can be boring. I'm glad to see more Texans showing up here and on playa. Good luck to you!

Thanks everyone! What I bring with me and what I buy there, depends on how I'm getting there and I'm from Houston. I'm very indecisive at the moment on method of travel. I have considered the following options: 1) Rent a larger vehicle and pack everything for camping and drive (i have a 2006 chevy malibu, and don't know anyone willing and able to lend a larger vehicle). 2) Book a rental vehicle in Reno, in advance, fly there and buy supplies there. 3) Book an RV rental in advance in Reno and fly there and buy remainder of necessary supplies.

The problem I have is how expensive it will be which is why I wanted some insight from previous burners who have made a long distance trip such as this one. I've worked it out on paper but that really doesn't seem to help me. Any words of wisdom?

Driving is more practical.
If the car is too small, get a good quality, lightweight trailer.
Or have one built.

I tried to go to the art car thing for years, but the organizers and museum couldn't have been more useless for information.
They kept telling me to watch the newpapers for information.
The papers here never ever had one single thing about anything in Houston.
I guess Houston doesn't need anymore people coming.

Make a decision on the rv very soon, as their dance cards fill up fast, and the event is not the only event on Labor Day weekend.
