forgot to add... do not get one of these if you have a four year old in the house. a four year old like mine, who apparently likes to walk around the house with a push-pin sticking it in to stuff to see what happens. sigh.daratheresa wrote:speaking of fitness stuff, and since all of us here are posting from our computers...

i have one of these. i took the little wheels off the bottom as i am on carpet and they tear it up something fierce. and mine is an older version and does not come with the strap and such.
it is _awesome_ if, like me, you spend a lot of time sitting on your ass in front of a computer. and it is amazingly comfortable. it doesn't feel like you're working out or anything, it feels like you're sitting in a soft, sightly bouncy chair. it does cause me to sit up straighter and use more muscles to hold myself steady. it's very subtle, but it does a world of good for me.
plus the ball comes right out and you can use it to actually work out with.

@daratheresa, sorry to hear the ball chair popped! i've seen used exercise balls at thrift stores for cheap....maybe they sell a patch kit?

Hola everyone!
Started KAIA FIT on Monday and jeebus I'm sore...
It is body conditioning, yoga and aerobics all rolled into a 4 night weekly torture session. I have found muscles that I didn't think I had anymore. I plan to add the treadmill back in this weekend.
Just wanted to keep this thread alive. No shame in backsliding, just jump on it again...blah

Congrats Elorrum, that is fantastic....there is a state legislator here in Nevada who wants to up the cig tax from .80 a pack to $2.00 a pack. I hope it goes through, my daughter will find it hard to afford them and hopefully quit.
Moonrise, sounds like you're doing good and I'm glad to hear it. Even if there are days where you smoke less than you used to, that is still all the better...can't stand the taste of ginger but I may have to learn to like it.
Jella, I wish we had a hoop class here. I have a hoop but just know the basic move (around my waist)
Well off to get my ass kicked at KAIA...ugh

Thanks Elorrum! Congrats, 45 days!! *applause*Elorrum wrote:45 today. you can do it too, Moonrise. I'm a wimpy gratification now or soon kind of person. and yet, I've managed it without nearly as much discomfort as I was predicting.
How do you FEEL?
We did discuss, reverse the train of thought, turn the table on the usual "quitting cravings" realize it's easy, simple, just stop. the end.
forgot them. this is exactly how you're doing it,
I'm skipping some days, zero smoke, it's slowly going to reach 'that day'
fuck you cigs!

Lucky, I didn't know she smokes, get her butt in here!
Yeah, these friggin' things have to go. (Fuck you cigs!) the time is drawing near, zero days, i like air and living. it's simple, just stop. the end.
Ginger can be taken in capsule. health food stores sell empty capsules and all the powdered ginger etc
KAIA,
Jella, hoops, cool, ever do the fire ones? also, is it easy to make a hoop?
I cannot hoop but others can save some $ i hear, if homemade (and better)
unjohn, maybe best you encourage him, tough love, not mean (i hope) tell him it's easy? worked for Elorrum and is for me also... he is your baby right?
Okay, where's everybody else? EFC is open 24/7
Edit for unjohn comment (please don't be mean unjohn)

I was kind of sad the first weekend I quit. I had to admit that I'd lost a long term companion: my cigarettes. Something I'd turned to for comfort or entertainment, or relaxation, or just that thing that made me feel 'right." Thinking they were evil wasn't working... I was sad. Maybe a little grieving, like that companion was really gone... that was a bit of a trick that worked for me. Also, I signed a pledge for my insurance rate that I am a non-smoker. I can't just decide to quit another time, and stay true to that, so Thank you big brother shithead corporate employer. Thanks. really.
Interesting, mourning the loss of them, perhaps i'll try the loss of a dear old freind trick (look in RIP thread) i'm also good at forgeting things, maybe that'll helpElorrum wrote:I was kind of sad the first weekend I quit. gah. broke down and bought a pack of cigarettes last week. first time in six months. they're gone, and i don't intend on buying more.
to be fair, i spent a week staying with family. it was going to be either a cigarette, thorazine, or a shotgun. i chose the lesser of the evils.
but man, i am sucking today. nasty withdrawal all over again. it's kicking my ass!

Go Elorrum! You're setting a good example for us. Fuck our day!
51 days now Elorrum *applause*
I've been doing great as far as what I eat. Also, I cut down to one multi vitamin and incorporated ginger, cumin and tumeric (Antim's favorites, gracias!)
Welcome back daratheresa! you can put the shot gun down now

I have been trying to make my treadmill workout a little more interesting, so I am playing with FARTLEK - with a name like that, it's got to be good. On the treadmill, I can select MPH - for walking that's about 3mph, for 0.10 miles, then crank it to 4 mph. And so on until I reach about 7 mph, then back down again. It's somewhat fun.

Ran 16 hilly miles yesterday in training for the Boston Marathon. Ran it in the same time that last week I ran 15 miles, and that was on smooth terrain. Felt very strong at the end and could have gone to 20. Still not drinking (haven't had a drink since Super Bowl and have dropped 10 pounds since then) and won't until March 9th. Woo hoo!

Every year I go 30 days after the Super Bowl without drinking. At the end I do a detox and colon cleanse, but that's TMI. I had a doctor back about 15 years ago telling me that "...I drank too much..." and I was an alcoholic because I had 2-3 drinks a day. He said I couldn't go three days without drinking and I said, "I can go 30 days without drinking!" and he said that "my kind" could never do that. So I showed him. And I have been doing it every year since then, just to prove to me that I can.
And damn, you realize a few things: 1) drinking's expensive; 2) drinking is more fun than being sober; and 3) it's a helluva lot easier to practice the paino and hit the right keys when you haven't been drinking.

Chantix helped me quit cigs once. I kick myself for smoking. I'll quit again someday. I quit meth 22 yrs ago and booze almost 6 months ago. Had to quit eating red meat and dairy products bcuz of ulcers, no spaghetti sauces or pizza anymore, no bagels, no sugar or fried foods. A lot of foods just make me physically ill anymore. I eat lots of fruits and veggies and wheat protein. Samantha and I more or less only give Jasper organic vegetarian food. He doesn't like meat anyway. Well, except for corndogs. He likes eating things (anything) on a stick.
Ya wanna know what's really good and delicious??? Seitan.

Oh yea, I have been cutting out Tomato, anything Tomato. Its from the deadly night shade family. Causes pain and is one of the worst, I think.
Bummer! Ketchup, I'll miss you!
Fish (Tuna) seems to be the best meat I can disgest and get fat, salt and protien...good for TTITD heh heh.
Seatan, I've tried that, for me it was a bit dense but maybe I'll try it again.
Good luck on the stopping cigs! ^^ I've cut way, way back again. (maybe i'll try Chantix, hmmm)
It's been snowing and windy past few days, not exactly great weather for walking, arg!
