Thank you.

Another reminder: in Q&A, Share Resources and ticket forums, PLEASE, serious answers first before the snark.

We have a lot of newbs piling in, and we do not yank their chains until they figure it out. No matter how many times they ask the same damn question they could easily answer if they did even a modicum of research.

I should NOT have top say this, but here it goes:

NO personal attack threads against other users here. They will be deleted. If anyone persists in personal attack threads after a warning, their name goes to an admin for a decision.

You NEVER get to post another eplayan's real name.

If you have a problem with another eplayan, plonk them. If their posts cross a line, tell me. If they contact you via PM, block them. If they contact you in real life or any other social site or media, that is far beyond my control, deal with it appropriately via official means.

You can choose to not receive emails via Eplaya. I urge you to choose to do so.

Why was this thread locked?
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=38906
Title - Help a tourist buy a car!!

If it's a commerce issue, it's my opinion that they can do this without any commerce involving burners, provided they are allowed to drive here.
I wouldn't subject myself to any liability issues, but for licensed drivers, I think these are issues easily solved.

Tom is concerned about viability, but if inexpensive mandates unreliability, then I'm in big trouble because my truck probably cost less than they would plan on spending, and I plan on driving it out this year.
I certainly couldn't rent for less.

That thread was locked after a discussion with actiongrl, as a possible TOS violation, an open invitation to fraud.

Nice use of my mod thread to get the last word on the thread though.

I was just trying to get any word on what happened.

I get the fraud thing, but it can be avoided and people will be doing this sort of thing on longer stays, so it seems relevant.

I have bought several cars long distance, and fraud shows up quickly when you do due diligence.
Normally people are much more honest about their cars long distance, because any misrepresentation immediately kills the deal.
Obviously caution is called for.
I walk away from any squirreliness, even after long distance trips.
This sort of purchase isn't an unheard of thing though.

The common scam currently is a car that is priced far too low, and is in a foreign country, or the seller is in a foreign country, while the car is here.
Any vetting exposes these, common on ebay.
There are always excuses about inspecting the car.

Ideally pre-shopping could be done, and the buyer gets here to make the final arrangements.

The post was commerce related. Pure and simple.

Gyre, deletion wasn't up for a vote. It was a potential problem, it was removed. They can find other ways and other venues to discuss it.

Any other car registration remarks on my moderation thread will be deleted.

I saw the request about registration.
I simply didn't understand it.
No one is going to do that, and any foreign national can purchase and register a car.
I thought it must be confusion about the rules.

I was looking at it as a "shopping for a car" issue.
I think most of us would help without charging, just for a little shopping help.
