I'm a part time contributor and feel okay adding my comments, but it took a lot of time to get to this point. A lot of folks get shot down pretty quickly and leave after just a few posts. Hell, I've been guilty myself of some of the snark that drove them away. Is this right? Not sure. Just hope it doesn't go away as it has been a great source of inspiration, information and entertainment for me. Thanks everyone.
I know what you mean, and it could definitely affect those who aren't used to forum like these. I'm relatively new here and find the snark refreshing and entertaining, but then I've been on quite a few forums that aren't intended for "nurturing" new members. Sometimes it degraded to the state you've mentioned, with cliques and stuff like that. The core problem some of those forums was that some of the people "in the club" were also moderators; so "dissent" would be quickly quashed.

I think the moderation on this forum does a lot for preventing the breakdown of the forum into a "club" for only certain people. Hopefully it remains that way.

Dr. Helix, I respectfully but utterly disagree with you; I found a very warm and coherent welcome here immediately. BBadger, you are on the right track (and the snark is quite refreshing) but, the real truth of this forum and the bottom line, beauty and joy of it is that it reflects the Ten Principles.

The noobs who are chased away are those who demonstrate a lazy dependency and a refusal to be taught. For their own safety I hope they never reach The Playa. I find you all to be wonderfully conscientious guardians, like it or not.

This shit is real, noobs. And it's better to be bitch-slapped on ePlaya than cold-cocked on The Playa. Mother Nature has no sympathy for you.

It's up to the people using it and the llc, to decide if that's what they want.

It may be a very interesting case study to watch the forum deteriorate.

There are already plenty of teen gamer and camaro forums that fill the bill though.

lay off of antiM or i'll Nuke you with my Snark Bombs.

dont try me Gyre, i know the back story.

Wonderful reasoning here. It isn't just a rave where everything is free. The snark is a good alert to those who have misconceptions about where they are going. I stay away from most of the opinion threads to avoid getting abraded by what I choose as a way to spend my free time. I guess as a consequence, I don't see this supposed breakdown in the community, and on the contrary have observed this year some of the new folks being great additions to the information/help bank. +1 to My Dear Friend.

Hilarious.

I just had a post pulled with no discussion, based on lies from AntiM's Cockroach Club.

No one ever asked me anything, but why would they, when they are only going to lie.

AntiM is an admitted liar.

Worse, vicious just for the sake of being vicious.

For her to be a moderator is high comedy.

If that's the kind of forum you want, you're already there.

I find the term "noobs" rather insulting. No way to know at Burning Man or on the eplaya what kind of experience or knowledge a person has, or lacks, unless they go out of their way demonstrate it.

That said, perhaps the eplaya page logo should be revised to read "Burning Man Community Discussion Board and Misinformation Archive".

LOL I like how you put that.

Thanks. It should be a good reminder to all to take everything I say with a grain (or two) of salt.

You find the term "noob" insulting? How about newb, newbie or virgin? Did you have a bad first year? This thread was meant to alert "new people", to some of the bullshit snark in here, and to take it in stride.
