:D <== For EVERYTHING I just read.

Keep 'em coming!!!!

Yesterday, we did the rounds of the 2nd hand stores. Had a 30% reduction card for one place, where I found.....

An AWESOME bike for my son (to replace his current one I can't afford to have fixed since it's in such horrible shape). Came to about 18$ with the reduction. It's in fabulous shape, and only needs 2 new innertubes. (and even that's a maybe! They may just have been deflated by a prankster.)

An old Acme, fully adjustable bodyform in incredibly good shape. In my size. Practically GIVEN away!

And a bunch of clothes for myself, including 3 amazingly stylish hoodies, some real bikeshorts (so I don't feel like I've just been gangbanged after my rides) and an incredible amount of t's and summer pants.

Final bill? 110$. I'm pretty pleased with myself this morning!!!

Oooh. Slight addendum to my last post:

Of course, now that I have the acme bodyform (which is sitting in the front entrance being used as a coatrack at the moment), I now no longer need the bust I made of myself out of ducttape. This is good news to my son and his friends, who I think get weirded out with my body floating in the air hanging from the rafters around here.....

So..... what to do with it.

Then Ken mentionned how it'd burn pretty spectacularly.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

So now I need to totally trick "myself" up for a GLORIOUS finale. Still have loads of old dried out vines and straw from our last "build something to burn" party to complete the body. I'm a bit reluctant to donate my styrofoam head to it... tho I'd LOVE to see the gooey melt that'd do!

Anyhow, looks like I've found my contribution to next week's BurningStuff Party. (and let me tell you, when they're almost weekly events, it gets hard to come up with interesting stuff sometimes!!! Usually the sidewalk provides, but you can't count on it every time)

That is the 'my size' barbie I bought from my niece for 4 dollars! She drove a hard bargain. Then I shipped it to Doc.

Funny thing is that a few years ago my girlfriend gave it to hear along with a huge box of other barbie crap. Then we had to buy it back from my niece.

Today I once again started my annual summer job running kid's day camps. I get paid to make crafts, play games, and go on field trips all summer long! My job is awesome! :D

My grandma's cat is officially coming to live with us, after it did not get along my aunt's pets. I am hoping that my kitties, Eddie and Kevin, make good friends with her. It's too bad no pets are allowed in my grandma's senior's home, but I am a closet cat lady so I'm happy to take her in.

One last happy for now: CANNOT WAIT for 50% at all the Value Villages in town tomorrow. Fingers crossed for some good scores :P

Happily reporting that I have returned from the Kinetic Sculpture Race in Klamath Falls. The two Racing Sculptures I transported up there in my bus both completed the race without demerits! Not everyone does -- one machine broke in half in Klamath Lake and the "Pilot" dragged it to shore by swimming. And fabulous weather -- sunny but not too hot, and no mosquitoes.

Since I was not racing personally, I spent much of the time baby-sitting my friends' little one. Quite a treat for me who never had kids myself.

Coming back, my travel companions wanted to see the Lava Tubes National Monument at Tulelake, so we wound up driving right past Eagles Nest. So now I finally know where you are!

A very happy weekend!

As for the UPS logo on the Dauntless Dirigible, that machine was sponsored by a number of businesses, including UPS, in its first life.

Explanation:
I was scheduled to camp with Apokiliptika in TC in 2010, and my bus "Millicent" was drawn in on the TC maps. But my "bus mates" Peter & Jerri wanted to be in Kinetic Cab Company at 9 and Esplanade, and with one toddler and Jerri seven months pregnant I did not want to make them commute clear across town. Jerri kind'a needed to have Millicent near by.

The happy part is that I still managed to contribute some bicycles, the Apok scaffolding, and the Kantina piano.

Another happy part: I believe the invitation to Apok still stands (since 2006!) and one of these years I will join.

Sorry about the confusion. Everything else is all happy!

I had one of the happiest days in a long time. I met up with EspressoDude and went to a scrapyard (where all my metals will now come from), an army surplus depot, and then his house. Seeing all of the incredible devices he has built has truly inspired me. I tend to limit myself with artificial excuses or discouragement that I can't do something because I don't think I have the right tools, materials, or whatever. I just need to get on it and do it!
Helga set out great sandwich fixings so I had a sandwich while looking out the back window at the Columbia river. LOVE their home!
I told them that we're going to need to start talking about adoption

Image
Helga took some bitchin pics. I hope she'll post em soon. Me and Dude are hamming it up in the photos with some of his neat gear.
What a happy day!

Wow, what a happy day!
It has to do with Sweetpea but I need to explain her situation first.
I've been asked by PM about her and if she is coming to the burn. Not this year but hopefully next.

Me and Sweetpea have been together for ~18 years. We met in the army on a firing range (I know, huh!). We got married 14 years ago. 10 months later she was in a really bad accident with a truck slamming into her. Her neck was broken and multiple discs herniated. She had to wait three years for the corrective surgery to deal with the discs as our insurance (Kaiser!) wouldn't cover it and there was no way to afford it. In the meantime all kinds of things went from bad to worse in her neck. When we finally got blue cross she got the surgery. She had three vertebra in her neck fused and held together with a plate. During the surgery they found a bone spur growing inside one of those vertebra that was compressing her spinal cord by 40-50%. After he was done with the surgery the doctor told me about it and said he was stunned that she could even walk. I almost fainted. Knowing she was in so much more pain than she ever let on. I confirmed with her later and she just said she didn't want to be a complainer, that is was really bad but manageable (!!!). Even after the surgery her neck has never been right She is still on pain meds and will be for the rest of her life. ( I lost it for a few minutes there, because that's a long fucking time and just ain't fair to her!)
So now she has to rest in bed a majority of the time because holding her head up is difficult. She's not totally disabled but enough so as to limit her severely. Some days are good, most aren't. On the good days she sometimes manages to get up and out and drive herself to market or the post office. We don't travel together much. I'm doing recon this year to see conditions, volatile as they are year to year, in hopes that we can rent an RV next year to get her out of the house and back into the great outdoors. And back around people. High quality, friendly, loving people like 99.44% of everyone I've met on eplaya. She's been missing out on life for so long, she deserves her time in the sun.
That's Sweetpea and that's where she's at.

The happy part I mentioned at the top is actually a few parts. First, today she's feeling good. She's gonna go down to the post office to pick up the mail. She said she might go to Happy Panda to get some chinese food for dinner! Happy Panda = Happy Tummy, do the math :). She avreages getting out of the house just 2 or 3 times a month so when she's able to, it's a really happy day!
Next, she made up a list of what I need to bring as a guide. Sometimes I get so excited (Me?) that I grab the shiny bits and forget some important ones. After reading the list I told her it was amazing she did that without having read the survival guide (I read to her from the forums, a lot, she's learned a little from there...). She said "It's just like loading out for long field missions in the army, common sense." :) :) :)
Then, a bit later she told me she wants to make some bead jewelry (she used to love making it) that I could bring with me to give to friends from eplaya.

(Crap, lost it again but from happy this time...)
It just touched me so deeply that she wants to get out her crafty supplies and start making things again after so many years. To make things For You, eplayans, For You. I cant even describe how grateful to you I am. She has seen how happy this place and the coming burn has made me and it has made her happy too. I am not kidding, our relationship has grown closer since I got here. Sounds nutty but it's real, very very real and y'all need to know it.

I have tears running down both cheeks, happy and grateful tears. We're both happy, happier than in years. She's happy for me because she knows exactly how long I've wanted to burn. I'm happy for her simply because she's happy. That's good enough for me :D!
Thank you eplayans. We appreciate it more than you will ever know.

Foxfur

PS If anyone has a similar situation, or even not too similar, don't hesitate to send me a PM or email. I can't promise anything beyond a shoulder to cry on or to wipe your tears but that's what we all need from time to time. Thanks for your shoulders.

I am so past my bedtime here I shouldn't even be trying to respond to this (as it deserves so much more than I could possibly give at the moment). However, I HAVE to say....

I so love you guys.
From day one. You, and your obvious love for Sweetpea, have been some of the most endearing and uplifting reading I do every day.

Knowing "the rest of the story" has just struck me with a 2x4.

Getting her out there is a wonderful goal.

Getting her in HERE (although she is -- SO VERY MUCH --- in here, thru you), seems an even more wonderful goal.... to have every single day.

Surely you could wangle her a properly adjstable laptop table so she could comfortably participate????

:D

Thanks for sharing. One thing you want to make sure you do is show Sweetpea how to watch the event while you are there. They stream it live on the Internet. The first year that my partner and I were together he didn't want me to come (a whole other story) so I found the streaming site and spent every spare minute watching the event and hoping I could get a glimps of him. No such luck.

But the point is, watching the live stream is the next best thing to being there, and when you get back she will have felt she was in some way, a part of the event. And, she'll have a much better understanding when you try and explain your experience there. She'll probably even ask you about some things she saw in the stream that you never even saw being ther live!

And I know that some people frown on this, but bring your phone and/or computer...you can call her a couple times during the week, and if you bring your laptop, I can show you a spot that you can almost always get Internet access, especially in the morning, and you can even video Skype with her.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me
