Speaking of propane, we're bring four 20# tanks this year. Is there any benefit to having them filled closer to the playa? I'm just wondering primarily about the effects of altitude and pressure change on the tanks.

not a expert, there are those with more experience, but the newer OPD tanks leave head space above the liquid to allow for swelling of the liquid contents due to heat and or altitude. this is to prevent unwanted and dangerous spewing of the contents or rupture of the vessel.

OPD tanks are the only kind that are legal to fill

two other thoughts: you don't have to haul 80 pounds; but what if gerlach has no propane to sell

We brought two up last year and were concerned, but there were no problems. But adding two more, I just thought I'd ask.

We started filling our regular gas cans closer to the event last year too, but gas is easier to come by than propane might be.

Coming from L.A. two years ago, we had a diesel truck and worried about that too. Turned out that we didn't have a problem...every station seemed to have at least one diesel pump.

Doing some upgrades to Rock Yer Balls for this year! Replacing all of the wooden pulley mounts with new steel brackets shown in magenta. Every time it gets used, the new weakest link shows itself! LOL Take that!!

I'd not worry about it, fill em where it's cheapest.
They (IIRC) have a "pop off valve" if pressure gets too high.
But, realistically, you should have no problem at all. Folks take them to high elevations all the time, in campers and such.
I fill my own, and, have never had an issue.
and, with the new valves, double so.

Just beware of the different nozzle sizes. I drive a Jetta TDI and it requires the narrower nozzle as most passenger cars (I believe). That said, I traveled from NY last year and only ran into one issue somewhere in OK. The Love's was strictly trucks and the station across from it had an issue with it's diesel pumps. Although the next signed rest stop was pushing it I found diesel at the next exit a little bit off the highway (GPS is useful for this). Frankly it wouldn't have really mattered, I had a 2 gal. gas can and the car averaged 45 MPG on the way back (at points topping 50 MPG). I love my TDI.

went by my last employer today and scored a box of AMP CPC connectors, 6 sets of 4 pin, and he popped the 4 conductor cables/pins out of a bunch of already made cable sets that they won't use..Yay, no crimping, just pop them in the 4 pin connectors.

once I get this done, will be able to run the dual flaming machinegun / 40mm flamer as independent art piece, OR connect it to FOGBANK controls when the assembly is mounted on top of FOGBANK.

I've had time to work on my latest piece of camp furniture:

From the side you can see one of the long bolts from the cable spool which held the 32" discs against the oak curved "spokes" which serve as the saddle and leg supports.

You can kinda see that the discs form the circular, winged portion. 2x6 fir elevates and stablizes the spool remnants.

The conspicuous hole makes the bench an inny or an outy depending on the desired affect. I wanted to show you it in the rough so you can appreciate the cable spool carcass. I will paint it and cover the "horizontal surfaces" with 3/4" wrestling mat foam. Then it will be upholstered with black cow leather.

I'm still working on how to attach my toys sufficiently for robust activity. It is most definately a work in progress,,,

What if I stain the oak and paint the fir? Would they not take in the stain differently anyway?

Trish tells me it WILL be stained with a dark, rich tone since the top will be all black leather with upholstery tacks around the edges.

I'm still contemplating exactly how to hold the vibratory appliance of choice in place. Part of me says, "turnbuckles" and the other part of me says, "leather straps". It has to be adjustable yet hold the appliance firm. decisions,,,, decisions,,,,
