Effect of playa dust on wool?
I have a thick wool cloak I bought from the local Renaissance Festival several years ago. I take it with me to music festivals and pretty much any time it might get cold when I go camping. I want to bring it out to BRC for those chilly nights I keep hearing about. I don't mind if the cloak develops permanent playa coloring, it will just give the cloak more character. However, I spent a fair bit on the cloak. Does anyone know if the alkaline nature of the dust will damage the fibers?

Your cloak will be fine;
playa dust doesn't damage anything...
(except you: skin, hair, lungs...all of which are easily preventable.
Oh, and it melds with the fluids on your bike, so if you don't clean (with vinegar/water) after leaving BRC it'll eat away at your gears/chain)

Yeah, it definitely damages metals. It's pretty corrosive when it gets wet.
I've never had it damage fabrics, but I don't think I had any wool out there.

I have a wool Panzer Wrap jacket that has made 4 trips out with no ill effects.

I wear some of my best suits on the playa- I just have 'em cleaned when I get home. I've worn some multiple times out there, no damage.
Go for it.
