if you leave the fabric as a square and not round the outside edges that is how you make pixie skirts
Here is a pretty good explanation of variations on the cut out a circle skirt making concept

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
any tips or ideas on how to make a utility belt?
Re: Costume & Crafting Help
Our costumes are going to be customized work wear, so we have gone with a tool belt. We found the costs vary dramatically in the UK and U.S. so we decide I would buy in the UK and bring them over, I am actually bringing quite a lot of things with me because I could get a lot of items up to 50% cheaper in the UK.usurpedus wrote:any tips or ideas on how to make a utility belt?

Where are you? In the US, most military surplus stores have 2" canvas belts and assorted pouches to fit them.usurpedus wrote:any tips or ideas on how to make a utility belt?
Or you could buy the pouches and put them on your own 2" belt.
Or, you could cut the waistband and pockets out of an old pair of cargo shorts... cut out the pockets and hang them from a belt...
Hmmm, was this even a serious question?

You can probably pick up a "utility belt" from Twin Cities Surplus in Reno. Gawd, I love that place.

Look at one. Copy it. It's about as easy as a project could get.usurpedus wrote:any tips or ideas on how to make a utility belt?
I put some velcro on the hat/beard, it's officially in the packing box. Not sure what to wear with it, though - that corset is double-boned (steel) and fairly immobilizing (as a corset should be).
I tweeted I HATE ALL MY CLOTHES I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR, started five projects and finished none of them.

ok! The main problem is since I"m the dummy (har har) I have to put it on, take it off, try and hope I get it right, try it on, re pin, unpin....it's very time consuming.illy dilly wrote:Sounds like we're in the same boat!C.f.M. wrote:started five projects and finished none of them.

I thought I had that problem nailed with my duct tape dummy but alas I stuffed her poorly and she went limp on me
. I'm going to try again someday with much much more stuffing next time. I borrowed a mannequin from work to finish the hem on my coat. My boss just laughed.

I was looking for some sort of shirt to go with our Cyber Fetish night. I'll grab 1 of the "Urban Camo" shirts and cut it up. Yeah, "Urban Camo" makes me laugh too, but it looks great in a black light.

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
Dressing the sparkle stallion has totally consumed my time. I need to get some strips of fuzzy stuff and just hand sew it on things as we travel I guess. Something to liven up my old hippie clothing anyway. Maybe hand sew some pom poms on a skirt/t-shirt would be good too.

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
Soooooo.. looks like we had some fun last night. I had to check the thread just to verify.. lol. Anyone have an Advil or 5?
Yeah, she's beside herself with anticipation being a budding little burgin and all while listening to me tell her my playa stories and escapades. It's all either of us can think or talk about anymore. We're the only ones though, right?
On another note, I can't say enough about that EL wire that I got from Coolneon. I had played with some in the past and it's very obvious that all EL wire is not created equal. That cheap Chinese EBay stuff is crap. I used 3.2mm "phat" which they recommend for outdoor/costume use, and it's super high quality stuff. The rubber coating on it makes it really bendable and flexible and seems very durable. It is a bit thick with the coating, but the more glow the merrier! Very pleased. All in all that's 23 feet of it with driver and battery cage that was $44 to my door. Pricey, but fun!

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
Does anybody have any fake chainmail fabric they don't want...I need something to go with my beard. NOTHING goes with rubber faux-metal cone bras...
Re: Costume & Crafting Help
Hmm... I've seen actual chainmail stuff at Michael's... I've never seen fake chainmail though (but please feel free to ignore me, I'm fairly new to the fine art of pillaging craft and fabric stores!)
Speaking of fabric stores... my crafty gift for my campmates is finally moving along well and I think I've figured enough to start really crankin' them out. The story behind it is that we all know each other from design & development message boards going back 10+ years but our current board is particularly awesome. So awesome in fact, that a few folks have designed seals and other cool odds and ends for our little "secret society"... a concept that fits in perfect with "Rites of Passage"!
So... everybody gets a fez!

This is just the prototype, the final design will have our variation of a pyramid and all-seeing-eye screen printed on the front (just re-learning how to screen print, wee!)

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
Has anyone ever used a supposedly magic glue called Liquid Fusion? (you just about had me at "Liquid Fusion" - awesome glue name) I'm thinking about using it to glue an el wire pattern on to a sturdy Dickie's work jacket. (again - Dickie's? Digging it!) I just want to make sure it's going to work before I start trashing the jacket. Thanks for any input!
Re: Costume & Crafting Help
"lickie's diquid fusion" sounds like a playa name.

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
I don't know anything about Liquid Fusion but sounds like something i need to try out too. I have all these el-wire ideas and no technical know how. Just gluing the stuff sounds so much easier lol
ok, due to several private requests, here is the sparkle stallion's monday outfit. I told him a plain thong would never do. I HAVE to sparkle it up somehow and liquid fusion just might help me get there.
