cheap liquor
cheap liquor
I am driving to BM from Salt Lake City and was wondering where the cheapest place to buy beer and liquor is in Nevada. If I go past exit #43 (BM exit) to go all the way to Reno to stockup it looks like I'll have to go about 25 miles each direction out of my way. So it seems it needs to be a city/town east of Reno. Thanks!

probably Winnemucca
I drive from SLC every year and have had pretty good luck in Winnemucca. We always go to Raileys, the local grocery store. The only problem I've encountered is that sometimes the other burners clean them out of the cheapest booze forcing me to buy the next to the cheapest booze. I've never searched for the very cheapest booze because it all seems cheap compared to Salt Lake. I think that Winnemucca has a Wally World or something hateful like that but is it worth selling your soul to walmart to save a couple bucks? One thing I do know is that Wendover seems super expensive comparatively.
Raileys is a great place to get food and ice etc too.
have a great drive and hope you find the mecca of cheap alcohol.

I believe the Albertson's grocery store in Winnemucca may have booze too, but I can't remember for certain. There is a Wally World and a Flying J's truck stop in Winnemucca as well.Jp wrote:I drive from SLC every year and have had pretty good luck in Winnemucca. I'd be curious to know where is Railey's?

Just be glad you're not buying at the Oregon State-controlled Liquor stores here. Can't buy anything but beer and wine at the grocery store. And the state controls the pricing on the booze at liquor only stores.

Icepack, I believe Jp meant "Raley's" and according to their website the address is 1125 W. Winnemucca Ave. (It's right off the freeway on the North side if memory serves). FYI, I have not set foot in a Sprawlmart in years.Icepack wrote:I believe the Albertson's grocery store in Winnemucca may have booze too, but I can't remember for certain. Fancy, at least you can buy beer and wine at the grocery--can only get watered down beer in Utah. Everything else is at the state liquor stores and it is EXPENSIVE!
Thanks all for the tips. My vote for cheap liquor in NV, if I could get all the way to Reno, is Costco.
playa greetings!

Yeah, but Denver just got voted the drunkest city in the US.theCryptofishist wrote:AntiM wrote:

In Massachusetts, you can't buy beer and wine in most of the grocery stores unless they have a special license. Some convenience stores sell it. Mostly though you have to go to the liquor stores to buy it all.
In Massachusetts you get hit with a 5 cents/can deposit for the beer cans too. So we will be buying our stuff in Nevada. We can buy it at the last minute and load it in the passengers laps for the last bit of the trip from Winnemucca to the Camp.
(Nice to see you here Fancy!)

legal drinking age?
What is the legal drinking age in Nevada anyway? Is it 21 all across the country now? Once we are at Burning Man, who cares, but I'm just curious if our under-21 friend will be able to drink anywhere else.

The legal drinking age is 21, and that's absolutely anywhere in the U.S. (including Nevada).
I've never been to the one in Winnemucca, but I've found Raley's to be pretty damn expensive compared to other grocery stores. If you can find an Albertsons it'll probably save you a bit of cash.

When you get to the ABS checkout, tell them your phone number is (write this down now): 775-813-1237. That's an old, nonfunctional number, so I don't mind giving it out, but it's what my membership is under, so feel free to use it. No one will know the difference.

I've seen a couple of varieties of Sake at Ben's Discount Liquors. I was in PJs yesterday afternoon and I was amazed at the low prices for good alcohol. I was at the PJs on Baring Boulevard across from Reed High School. For instance, I was looking for Meyers Dark Rum. I saw a 750ml bottle in Safeway "on sale" for $29.99. I bought the same bottle at PJs for 17.99.
MissNev, interesting zoning there....Hey, is PJ's what was referred to earlier in this chain as "BJ's?"I was at the PJs on Baring Boulevard across from Reed High School.
And Icepack ABS is Albertson's (their Dow Jones trading symbol)
Guess I should just drive the extra miles to Reno....thanks all
