I have found, I miss, some of the old biting snark of the past.
I'm not so good at it, but, do appreciate it.
And, here on this board, some of the best ever. (well, in my limited experience from any other board).

yup sometimes it pushed limits of propriety, decorum and taste.........but, so what?
It only got "squelched" when it became personal enough, that threats, private info, etc became visible.

I grew a thicker skin, and learned a lot, getting my ass kicked by the likes of AZ, Cowboy Angel, DVD, E2K, Mozy, OED,Spectabilis, Isotopia, Badger, JK, etc....( I know there are others, but, am blank at the moment).

And, Simon..........especially Simon.
He can be acrid, acidic, and snarky, to be sure.....at times "out of bounds".......also, witty, caring and gentle. He offers as much comfort, as he does conflict, if you just bother to read.
Not only rips you, but, offers help, advise, and true caring. and sometimes, he's the only one who gets my jokes
From our early conflicts,( to the point I was just going to "bow out" and not participate any more here), I feel, we've become friends, on and off "eplaya".

well, this is my lament, and, this thread finally gave me a place to voice it.
to much "huggy/feely" is just, for me, boring.

Does anyone know what happened? Did he have a post pulled? Do we know it's pulled pulled, or is it just in quarantine?
For the record, I thought Roberto was pretty unkind to tg, who may need a gentler touch than most of us. Also, she hasn't spent enough time with him to realize that Simon is not malicious. So my issue is target only. If he'd said that about me, I'd have gone off on some stripper pole riff...
But I sure as hell want him to stay. All of him. I consider him as one of my special eplaya friends.

(Yeah, the rest of you are special, too)

What I believe happened is that one of the other moderators was reading another thread, saw Simon's responses as a bit harsh, and messaged him privately to ask him to tone things down and possibly cut the OP some slack for one reason or another. I believe that moderator had the best of intentions, and don't believe that the intention was to either play favorites, give anyone special treatment, censor the boards, or any of the other things it could have been construed as. Simon was rightfully and understandably upset about that, which is where things are now. I'm sorry for the way that was handled, we (as a team and individually) will work on that.

i hate to be a princess as has been implied by some of my detractors, but the whole free speech thing is a real sticking point with me, to the point of often getting me in trouble...

i say the shit that people think but wont utter out loud, or at least in public...it is a curse sometimes.

i am also often misunderstood by those that dont bother or are unable to dig thru multiple layers.

that is also a curse as well.

im sorry i flew off the handle, but it seemed ridiculous, and i wanted no part of the gagging of opinions...

The beauty of the playa, and burning man is the ability to feel comfortable in your own skin, to be true to ones self, to be without pretension or premise, at least for one week....The Eplaya gives us a brief virtual representation of that freedom, then it's back to defaultia with all of its masks and foibles.

if i have to pull my punches, i'd rather not throw them at all, And truth be told, i have EVOLVED into a Less Snarky, Less Vicious, Kindler Gentler Eplayan anyway (IN RELATIVE TERMS, OF COURSE...) and have tried to pick my targets sparingly and wisely when i whip out the 50. cal. snark gun.

when i gnash my teeth because i cannot respond to giant heaping gobs of drivel or out and out lies, i get angry and internalize that anger, and i would rather not have to go thru that process if at all possible.

i only do two things on the net....facebook, and this....facebook because i have to, Eplaya because i love it, and the people, and the whole notion of Burning all year, albeit virtually.

i pretty much behave the same all year, on or off playa, i yam what i yam.

i will try to keep the name calling out of it, i can and will be more intelligent than that.

I read the other thread to catch up on what was going on. I will say this. I don't care who you are or what your story is. You're going to get the entire range of reaction from this board from good to bad. And that's as it should be. Nobody should be immune from any comment just because their story is heartwarming, sad or inane. It's why I joined, why I read it and why I sometimes contribute to the discussion.

The thing is... this is a public forum for information about an event, as well as a place for attendees (or past/future attendees) to communicate with each other.

But when you have people like Simon & a few others, it becomes "their" playground. It becomes a place for all of their mental problems & their obvious need for constant attention. Which is fine, but not when it gets in the way of an otherwise enjoyable & informative board.

We get it... you have dozens of socks & tens of thousands of posts. And obviously way too much time on your hands.
A break from this board would definitely do you (and it) some good.
