CORE - Circle of Regional Effigies - 2012??
Does anyone know if the CORE project (Circle of Regional Effigies) will happen again in 2012, or was that just a one shot deal for 2011? Idaho missed the boat last year, we weren't able to organize in time

Yes...well, yes, probably that is.
We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.

Huh, I heard that will happen. I was wrong when I posted otherwise a while back. I based that post on one person's opinion, oops, shoot me.
The way I heard it is, the regionals with their effigy shit together, will make it happen.
BUT, I am probably wrong again, ready aim fire!

I'm the MAN in a truck, burner who is stuck, you're in luck! I'll whip out my BIG tow chain and not charge you, not even one lousy buck!

And another question, does the December 1st deadline for BRAF's Letters of Intent apply to CORE projects? I've heard talk that CORE projects are "by invitation only", but have nothing to verify that with. Our regional contact recalls an email last year, but has since deleted it.
We are trying to guage whether we should be putting effort into something that may not happen...

BRAF doesn't fund playa art. CORE is being discussed and hopefully will happen again!

Check with your regional rep. If you have not done so, sign up with your closest regional rep http://regionals.burningman.com/ and you will should get emails with all of the events happening in your region...

2012 C.O.R.E. was confirmed yesterday. It will be happening. Details to follow.....
Those who think they can and those who think they can't are both right.

Yup, it was confirmed to me from the Org on Saturday.

I agree, Sail Man. I not only really dug the builds as art pieces on the playa, but really enjoyed the core burn itself. The fires may have been smaller than the big show on Saturday, but the atmosphere and the energy was unreal - I'm really looking forward to the 2012 incarnation

One of my favorite memories in 2011 was Thursday night's CORE burn.
I got a ride on the 120' lift up over the burns and sit on the couch with one of my favorite friends, admiring the bird's eye view.
Truly magnificent.
Worth losing one of my best Surefire flashlights in the couch somewhere.

one of my 'omg i was drunk' moments was around the CORE burn..
was watching it from up on the deck in center camp and all these people were on ground level watching 1 wimpy (but skilled) fire spinner .. missing all the coolness..
i guess nobody came up to watch cuz i was 'that guy' the one drunkenly yellin at ppls to look at the shiny stuff...
but whatever!
it was still cool and shit was burning..
one wimpy fire spinner, pfft..

I think what I really liked about it was hanging at my regionals project, the lighthouse, and seeing a lot of people I know from said regional, that I have not had the chance to see out on the playa before. It was like a bunch of regional burns all in one place. I think the Borg really hit on a awesome idea in creating this and I hope that they do continue with them. I think it helped to tie the regionals into the big burn in a truly unique way, and made it seem much more personal.

Yeah, unfortunately I missed out on that aspect. I was at the Meet & Greet in 2011, and barely ended up making it onto the open playa in time to see the fires starting up. Still an awesome experience, and next year I'll make sure to make plenty of time for it.
Re: CORE - Circle of Regional Effigies - 2012??
The CORE project was a lot of fun. We did The Burning Sheaf. Brought our small region together, previously unknown burners got involved in a big way
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the meet & greet due to my SCORE (Saskatchewan, Canada) responsibilities.
I am not sure if we are going to be able to contribute for 2012. I haven't had a chance to chat about this with my Regional Rep yet...

Kudos on a job well done, that thing was cool! I really enjoyed the Meet & Greet, but don't see a way to be able to do both events properly and will have to miss it in 2012. Hopefully there'll be other opportunities to connect with eplayans.

Same reason I couldn't do Meet/Greet(I was on the CORE/Lighthouse/Great Lakes), as well as that damned Critical Dicks March at noon always wearing me out...
