Seriously? Fertility 2.0?
Most of my yawns have the yawns and the others fell asleep an hour ago.
I guess I'm not an artist as I can think of nowhere to go with that and I'm usually a pretty abstract thinker.
Maybe 2 bottles of Robitussin would get the neurons firing.

Ah, I'm just bored and latched on to this today. Once I decide I need proof of something I can spend an entire week researching it. It's the way my brain works.

Re: This Year's theme sucks.
Come to think of it, some people thought the theme was "Back to the Beach" based on the summer newsletter thingie.
Mysteria was in late June. We suspended the Man from the roof trusses in the SOMARTS gallery, put a small gal with a gigantic hoop skirt in a fly rig, and somehow simulated a love act. Paul Addis had helped the carpenters build and assemble the Man that year, I remember yelling at the agro little fuck to get his bare feet out of the way when they slid the Man out of the truck.
Just like your average church pageant.

MYSTERIA: The Secret Rites of Burning Man is presented at the Somar Cultural Center as an evening of interactive theater, multi-media arts and cultural hi-jinx. This year's benefit show will feature two principle cults: The Court of Cruel Mistress Gaia, where the potent powers in the court will include the Top Banana, Merischino Cherry, Hot Tomato, Salted Cashew and his crony the Beer Nut, among other fruits and vegetables. And a pageant: The Burning Man Mythos, the ultimate fertility dance between the Warrior Sperm and the Vestal Virgin Barbies.
Somar's gallery, theater and warehouse will be combined to house dozens of Bay Area artists who have created their own interactive rites of passage that reveal a visionary secret. Some of those will include: Secret Rites of Barbie, the Revirginator, Sacred Order of the Small Appliance, Temple of Idle Worship, Esoteric Order of the Yummy Yoni, Temple of the Sacred Lollies, Mystik Krewe Satyrs, Jonestown Reunion, Cult of the Erotic, Society of Super Heroes, the Aura of Laura and Burning Man himself — all 40 ft. illuminated in neon — will be flown from the rafters above the "mysteria of the absurd."
Just like your average church pageant.

I just shriveled.
Vulturechow, how cool would it be to make tukes to look like them for burners to wear on a climbing wall with crochetcrotchzilla awaiting them at the top? Two tube slides back down would make for a good finale. Especially if the burners landed by slamming into each other thus representing cutthroat competition.
I just woke up hence the fuzzy idea...

Fertility does not stop with reproduction, it also means
"The property of producing abundantly and sustaining vigorous and luxuriant growth"
This is inline with earth's exploding population and last year's growth in Burning man attendance. I don't think it's a stupid theme at all

Fertility 1.0 had its moments. Had the opportunity to gift a friend of mine a box of pubic hair.

I don't like it.. but I will allow it to be included in the event because of the 'radical inclusion' principle (does that only apply to people, or ideas as well?..)

There was a guy in that costume here in Portland at the big burnery Halloween party. For a while he was dancing right next to me and this nice lady. She remarked "That's really gross."
So I said, "It's just an egg."
"It's not an egg..."
"Look... in my mind, it's an egg costume, a nice sunny side up fried egg, and I'll hear no more discussion on the topic."

Nipple wrote:I'm just glad this year's theme doesn't have the word Change, Hope, or Occupy in it.
Those three words are officially DEAD TO ME.
(This isn't a political viewpoint. I've just heard those three words so much in a political fashion that they've lost any meaning to me.)
But you know that all that three dead words are kind of present in Fertility. Lot of people are in Hope for Fertility...when it is accomplished the woman is Occupied for 9 months...and it is definitely Change to the ones life.
Sorry Nipple, I had to...I am just messing with this

Box? Most of it was male pubes, actually.
One of our camp's interactive elements was a shaver, and a friend happened to be decorating a vagina on wheels, so I gave him a shoebox full of it.

Re: This Year's theme sucks.
I've been struggling to convince people on the FB page that Fertility was the '97 theme. '97 was my first burn and after 15 straight years of partying in the desert, I've probably lost some brain cells but not enough to be confused that the theme was "Mysteria". Having someone altering the Wikipedia page didn't help. While themes were unofficial back then, I do remember seeing fertility themed artwork, costumes, and gifts.
This is just my humble opinion.....while I don't doubt that the words "Fertility 2.0" came out of Larry's mouth at Artumnal, I don't think this will be the theme. At least not in the sense that it was in '97. If the folks in the office have chosen to repeat the theme, then they really have gone wonky.
Also, I agreed, Danger Ranger would not let it slip. Yes, he posted it in his Twitter feed, his Flickr picture and his FB page but I think it's cryptic for something else.
So before I rush out and start making egg and sperm gift necklaces, I'm going to wait for official word from the office. Again, just my humble opinion.

*Sigh* cue the plethora of "artists" wanting to populate the playa with statues of pregnant women/men.
I have nothing against pregnant women. I think they're great and beautiful but I see people taking the obvious route with this one. *yawn*
