What are you going to sleep on in your tent?
Re: What are you going to sleep on in your tent?
In the tent: queen size air mattress covered in a fitted sheet with an unzipped rectangle sleeping bag as a blanket. Throw an extra sheet over top when we go out to keep the dust bunnies off.
Outside the tent: trampoline

Re: What are you going to sleep on in your tent?
I use an army style cot. One of the ones you have to wrestle the end bars on. I have carpet scraps I put under the feet to protect the tent floor. Then I have a wide roll of non-skid drawer liner I put down, then on top of that I use a cheap open cell foam corrugated twin size mattress pad. Depending on weather either the sleeping bag gets laid down unzipped with a sheet on top or the sleeping bag is zipped up with blankets on top and some folded up under the bag if really cold. I also have a Cloak of Doom that has done double duty. When I was sleeping double I packed a full size bed and futon. I've woken up to frost on the inside of the tent at some events. Sleep like a rock.
There is an air bed kit that includes a frame that folds out so the bed is elevated. Packs down into a bag a bit smaller than a suitcase. I have/had one, worked well though the sleeve the mattress slid into squeaked on the vinyl way too much until I put a fitted sheet on the mattress first. You can hide a lot of stuff under that bed either on the ground between the legs or slid through the frame.

We use the same exact cot with a egg carton foam mattress pad on it and even with my shoulder, back and neck pain, I sleep very comfortably, especially with the battery operated sound machine. I can even sleep though most dj/rave setups as long as they are not right next to our tent.
Re: What are you going to sleep on in your tent?
So far I'm thinking a winter camping bag/cheap camping bag (haven't decided on that one yet) over a inflatable mattress, with whatever warm, furry blankets I can find.
Make way for the crazy train.

Last year I started out on my air mattress, but then ended up out in the shade area
on our sofa bed. So I will do it again this time.

TG - suggest get a blow up mattress. They are cheap. Not the lightest but comfortable enough
one of us will have a pump that you can use.

That depends on exactly how little space you have and how deep your pockets are. Self inflating camp mat and travel pillow, 50 degree bag, a fleece blanket and two sheets (one for dust cover) will all fit into a duffel with room to spare. That should be good down to 40F with layering techniques, and if hot it can all be layered underneath with just a sheet on top. If you want more comfort then an army cot can be had instead of the (self inflating camp pad) for about the same price, but it will weight a lot more and getting the end bars on is a test of sanity for most of them. If you have power or can take a manual pump, there are twin size air mattresses, but then they have a chance of going flat in the middle of the night, but they are probably the cheapest option. If noise is an issue the cot is the noisiest especially with extracurricular activities (squeaky drum), as well as being higher off the ground (falling over). Get a roll of non-slip drawer liner, the wide stuff is about 16" wide and over 5' long, it's usually pretty cheap and if you put that between whatever pad you get and the sleeping bag you won't slide off in the middle of a good sleep.

REI camp mat. 2" of comfort. If I didn't have to check two things already on the plane, I'd bring my PACO pad. Flipping amazing thing to sleep on.

Re: What are you going to sleep on in your tent?
I have a twin blow up air mattress. Just the blow up thingy is a plug in. So if someone does have a blow uper that would be amazing!!! It does weight a bit and a bit bulky so I was giving some thought to a blow up pool float. but im a bigger girl so i think i would not quite fit on it. If I did the blow up mattress, would i really need to put a mat under it? I plan on using a sleeping bag and a down comforter.

We use a blow up queen mattress and it works fine, just make sure your blankets/sleeping bags are nice and warm. I recommend warm sleeping clothes you can peel off easily when the sun comes up.
If you're camping with BDV, we're bringing a charge up pump that lasts about 2 air mattresses before dying. So we have just enough juice for 1 more mattress after we do ours.

Just as a note, coleman (and other companies too) make manual inflators. There are a few different kinds of foot pump things which don't take up much space, look around where pool toys, or inflatable rafts are sold. The coleman is a double action piston, bulky but weighs nothing. It has a vacuum port, so you can suck the air back out of a mattress and really shrink it down. I've been wanting to try those big storage bags for clothes and see if my pump can be adapted to draw it down.
Here's one of the foot ones on uber discount on amazon, qualifies for free shipping if you can find something else to pad the order out.

Re: What are you going to sleep on in your tent?
TTG, I also have a bed pump. Coleman makes a battery operated one too. so you're welcome to use it!! I sleep on a blow up queen mattress and it sits about 18 or so inches high, and the pump fills it in 5 minutes or less!
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

It's funnier if there is no direct translation.

Quite, it is so Dragnet. (scene where Friday (Dan Aykroyd) is faced with a Baitmate and Pep (Tom Hanks) volunteers to leave him to the interview, rather expressively with pencil action)
