NEW lead on '04 assault
Clown person,
Please consider that you might have misinterpreted some of the posts about cowns--I know it's hard to see a joke when it's about ourselves and also when it's in a thread that's so serious to begin with, but I really think you misinterpreted some comments made in jest.
Flackmaster,
May your body heal quickly, may your heart follow. I really hope you get your bike back, but if you don't, I hope you grow to love your next bike as much or more. I'm sooooo sorry this happened to you!
TheMuse,
Hi! I enjoyed hanging out at your camp and sharing a clove one afternoon...Appreciated your hospitality!

Milenko:
ribbit, ribbit,
frogs love everyone.
you get what you resist the most.
embrace the clowns, love the frogs, and we won't make fun of your closed mind anymore.

Get well soon, Flackmaster. You deserved better than that. Please don't be scared of all clowns, though. The guy who attacked you was really a monster. Clowns, like frogs, don't endorse violence.
Sending you love and healing-vibes from down below...

who then?
okay maybe not clowns; what about young men?; what about anyone in the dark?
assault lends itself to pejoratives -- otherwise you would be afraid of everyone. everywhere, all the time

FM,
Even under perfect conditions, it's gonna take awhile to get over what happened--you were severly traumatized. Let me just plant the suggestion that in 4-6 months if you still feel like you do today about young men/people in the dark etc...there's a trauma healing technique called EMDR that some therapists specialize in. Use it if you need it, it's effective for this kind of thing.

One bit of information
Hey all,
I worked with Flackmaster on this issue. The assailant has said he was part of a different camp in the vicinity but on a different street. I've also spoken with the organizer of the clown camp on Neptune and been assured that the assailant was not one of them.
I can certainly understand Clown Lover's concern regarding retribution and just wanted to add my two cents on it.

no clown clown retribution
though i'm getting a lot off mileage out of the clown aspect of this tradgety, please know that it just a coping mechanism. i really don't want every clown to be suspect next year
though it would give my poor old midwest parents a heart attack to hear me say it, NAMBLA and OUCHY are two of the nicest people i know behind the make-up
if violent shitheads had labels we'd be able to keep them all out of BM....sadly they don't

Ouchy is a standing funny in my office. He does "meeting facillitation" here in the SF Bay area. We keep talking about ways to get Ouchy into the office. Maybe on the boss' birthday we can have him come over. I just want to see the look on the receptionists face when he comes in, asks for the boss and she (while never taking her eyes off Ouchy) calls him up and says "You have a ... uhm ... er ... visitor in the lobby!"

After a very positive life experience during our trip out to the playa in 2002 (we did the, imho, very fun and nifty video drome (large scale video projected on white geodome (yurt) in which you would watch in the quiet inside of the dome or set up chairs (as some did) around the outside of the dome to watch... It was great. We had an expensive and quiet genny that we left unattended while we went out to enjoy everyone else's projects. It was a life changing experience. I met the nicest people out on the playa. We were at 9:15 and only about 1 block off esplanade.
This year was wholly different. We were at 3 and out quite a bit. We came this year without a crew to do a theme camp but we did gift all the lighting and flooring for the Esplanade roller rink from a recent project we did. It was nice to see it being recycled and reused on the playa. Our costumes were somewhat ruined by the cold weather as we found we had to bundle up on Wed and Thu nights. We had a weird experience on Thu. Someone kept trying to offer us liquid from an open wine bottle at one of the DJ/dance camps on the Esplanade near 2 which we refused kindly. Our van was vanadalized and on Friday night I was assaulted. Because we had some recreation stuff with us, I was hesitant to report anything. I did at some point go to a medical tent at 3 and was sent to Sanctuary, but instead of getting medical help, they wanted to know if I had taken drugs. My wife was with me and we eventually left sanctuary and returned to our camp and decided to leave early. It was quite a unique experience as well, but not the one I had hoped for. Anyway, no whining, just data. Your playa experiences will vary.

Re: who then?
A few years ago when I was mugged in L.A. at gun point I had several friends ask me the race of the person who mugged me, aside from the police who actually need that sort of descriptive info, and it really disturbed me. It seemed like it was irrellevant to the story in my opinion.Flackmaster wrote:okay maybe not clowns; what about young men?; what about anyone in the dark?

Shitfuck
I've heard so much about this story from a friend of mine. It started out funny, then truned very, very bad--ending with Flackmaster getting hurt. The 'alleged' fool who hurt Flackmaster was 'Shitfuck the Clown.' That much I know. If any of you out there have any information about Shitfuck or Bad Vibes Camp--step up to the mike!! I know Bad Vibes existed because I went by there and felt the bad vibes personally. ick. Not really the spirit of Burning Man, that filthy camp, trash everywhere...so much for leave no trace!
Flackmaster: I am so sorry for what happend to you. I heard about your story from a friend of mine about a week ago and I just want to extend my warmest cyberhug to you for a quick recovery. No one should have to endure violence like that. I hope the fool who did this to you gets the book shoved up his arse.

please, please, please report this or, if it is too late, post some details. It might be the same guy. If not it is still important to know that this stuff happens. We do not need to be perfect to survive, but we need to deal with the problems with zero tolerance. Yeah the cops asked me if I was doing drugs or drinking too. Yeah I had been drinking, but that had NOTHING to do with me being assaulted. I guess if I had not gone out at all at night nothing would have happened either, but you can't live that way; specially not at Burning Man. Maybe if we start reporting all the bike thefts, assaults and vandalism the authorities will have less time for little bullshit pot busts.jellibee wrote: Our van was vanadalized and on Friday night I was assaulted.
