Ride to Decompression?

Post by theCryptofishist » Fri Sep 24, 2004 9:28 am

Hubby will be taking the car down south for a couple weeks to earn money.

From the east bay, Elmwood Rockridge area.
Not wanting to stay late--I have to work the next day, but I would like to see the day time stuff. Share gas, toll if that won't get me kicked off the board. . .

Rockridge, like Oakland Hills/Piedmont Rockridge?

That's the place, although it looks like my husband may be available one way. . .

I would be happy to give you a ride to and/or from Decompression. I live in Contra Costa, but the Fire Art Project I am bringing is kept at my shop in Oakland. The only down side is I need to be there early to get set up and due to the size of my "device" I may be there till the end and I cannot trailer it out until everyone around me is gone. Let me know if this will help in any way.

We'll see. How will I recognize your project--because at the very least I should stop by and see that.

It is called "El Diablo". It will be the only flame effects device (read flame thrower) powered by a jet engine from a military fighter/trainer. It is mounted on a 20' trailer and the after burner extends 12' into the air. Hard to miss. The size of the trailer makes it impractical to leave early. It was on the Playa this year at 3:30 about 100 yards off the Esplanade.

Was it at the Crusible's Fire Arts Festival

(In which case, I saw it. Impressive.)

The same! Due to the noise and the amount of fire we only ran it once a night at the Fire Art Festival. We have made some "enhancements" since then. I can now produce a 75' flame, orange at the top 10', blue green azure at the bottom 10' and bright red in the center of the fire column. I may not get to run it at Decompression. They are a little concerned about the noise. However, I was asked to at least display it. Our next modification will be a way to inject Titanium and Magnesium shavings into the jet stream. Post engine but before the afterburner. Should produce a nice effect.

As I recall it was the last event on the Friday night. (Anything else would have been an anti-climax.) I gotta wonder WHAT the people driving by on the freeway thought. . .

Thank you everyone for refraining from embarrassing me by pointing out htat Monday was a holiday (Indiginious People's Day, round here) and I might not have to go in. I may be there all day!
