Simon: Please speak your mind and heart on this issue. AlthoughI had a wonderful burn this year, which was my fifth, I am planning to take to the internet in the near future to clearly voice my disgust that the mega-sound camps and the "sound police" at BMORG allowed the airspace of The Temple to be polluted almost 24/7 by the sound systems of the mega sound camps. Since my first burn I have been awed by the silence that can be found at The Temple. This year I volunteered as a Temple Guardian and during my shifts there was never a time when the air was not filled with MEGA THUMP coming from far across the playa. While Root Society was certainly loud their output paled in comparison to the audio maelstrom emenating from the 9PM side of the city. Was it Entheon Village that was responsible for that awfulness? To anyone who's going to get down on me for writing this post: FYI, I do not dislike EDM. I in fact LOVE Robot Heart and Heart Deco. I just don't think that it's right that the physical and spiritual soul of the city and the event was desecrated this year by clueless sound camps who had no respect for any space or person that existed beyond the borders of their camp and culture. And how the f*ck was it that the "sound police" at BMORG did NOTHING about the situation? Any veteran burner could have recognized that this year the mega sound camps took their audio capacity to DEFCON 1.

the Original Plans drawn up (on sketch-up no less....right?....please bitch, a free program from google does not a CAD designer make....) by a 23 year old newb who has never touched scaffolding, BTW (more to come on that) were originally designed to point in between the temple and the man.....you would have been double or triple fucked since we were spewing 150k worth of oooontz.


i built the first center tower (safe and level, i might add) and pointed it towards Black Rock...with the crescent shape opening heading approx NNW.

The big sound camps--the raves--seem to have turned into a MOOP-lot filled with clueless teenagers, candy ravers, indistinguishable piles of bikes, dark-tards and undercover cops. We watched Crystal Method for about a minute, checked out the VJ who was our greeter, and then went back to Slutgarden and then Pink Mammoth, both of which were hotter and radically less crowded.

Seemed like a happier vibe in the Oakenfold/Tiesto days. Dub-whomp seems to appeal mostly to e-tard college boys and ketamine junkies.

Distrikt, on the other hand, brought down the fucking house again. One of my favorite moments was watching a live bass player and a synth-fiddler up on the tower playing to the music on Monday or Tuesday. Too bad about all the MOOP around the portables. Why is it almost always cheap-ass hillbilly beer cans?

I too wanna hear your thoughts, Simon. I made it up to Bootie mashup party, that was it. I have a hard time going back to places where I can't communicate with others as well. Its good to go in a group but even those days are done.

Loved the music but I won't be returning as a plan, its just not my thing. I'll go back to visit Oke someday This lil spunion had a gigantic propane torch that almost burnt my lotus staff, could of easily burnt off anyones face if he aimed it wrong. Casual Prope at its finest! Safety third! I love a good rant so bring it on.

It just seems like some things at BMan need to get bigger and bigger or else they feel defeated or something....it seems like it could all cave in on itself if the urge for bigger faster more is always there. I can understand that but thats also what makes me step back.

I can say I saw Osris' name in here as being loud and I guess you could hear us or someone else by the Temple. If that is really the case. I will have to give my sincere apologies. Our original plan was to point more north but when the wind would not die down we were unable to raise the sides to the Pyramid and we had to change our settings. With this we did try and point away from everything but in the same sense try and utilize sun rise to fill the pyramid to make an amazing experience for every one. I will make sure in the future that this does not happen again. If someone would have came over at any time during the entire time we were there and gave us some sort of a please move things around. We would have. At no point in time have we or root had any intention on ruining anyones time out there. I can not speak for Jefr but he is a very nice guy and would never want any kind of issue like this to arise. Our only intention at the Burn is to give an amazing experience to everyone. I wish some one would have spoken up (on the playa) rather than going on the media after the burn and making a rant. I noticed some of the rants were from people that have been part of the burn for no more than 5 years. This was my 12th year. And my second year we did a sound camp that was loud as well. It was also pointed towards the playa. I think 10 and B is about a mile away from the temple and I would have never thought that a sound system would go that far. It is a mile away. So I will say sorry and if we are to be out there we will make sure everything is pointed completely away from everything. Music is art as well as all other pieces of art. Music is the international language I would have never thought it could be an issue. I will take this conversation as advice on future art and sound camps at the burn. Again my sincere apologies if our sound camp had any negative effect on anyone. It will not happen again. I can say I had hundreds if not more people come up to me and thank me for helping them have an amazing burn and these people were not little kids they were burners that have been there for years.

Wow ok there Simon. Great burner attitude. I always thought you to be more of a real burner but I guess that is not the case. In my years of Burning Man the one thing that was always a major thing was working with everyone to make burning man a better place. So if some one was to have done something that was not favorable to others and that person or group gave their apology and fixed the problem then things were good. It would be different if someone intentionally did something that was a jack ass move and they did not give a shit. However this is the first complaint I have heard from anyone about sound. With that I said I would fix it and make sure it would never happen again and you come back with that attitude when you do not even know me and tell me my apology was not sincere and to pretty much fuck off well then I will still be a bigger man and say I meant it when I said sorry and again I will make sure no sound of ours ever protrudes towards anything other than open playa. I am here to make every year better. I will obviously avoid you and your negative issues that you have with people and situations. I have never heard bitching at burning man I have only heard people working together. Glad I have missed you for the last 12 years. You want to know the demise of burning man well look in the mirror. The demise will come from negative media like this and negative people like you. I do not see why you can not have amazing art and amazing music coincide together giving everyone the experience they are looking for.
