No those are noise canceling. They would give them to every OTHER burner so RS could be as loud as they want

i wanna partake in one at one point in my life. it has got to be a mind-boggling thing to witness. seeing all these people boogie to what you perceive as silence yet every single one of them are on the same page!

Re: ROOT SOCIETY 2012
Chiming with what Simon said earlier... Not everyone who comes to a sound camp to dance is inconsiderate.
I did a little daytime mooping at our (RS) biggest stage. Several people started to help, and lots of others said "Thank you".
And the moop wasn't too bad (daytime admittedly, I suspect our dawn moopers got the bulk of it). Feathers and cig butts mainly. The worst was under the dance platforms. The sides were scrimmed so the moop was lying hidden. One had to duck under the scrim to discover the fallen stuff.
Some of it you can see was a product of dancing. A beaded necklace snaps and whoosh... every last bead hits the floor. In the dark, even the most conscientious person won't be able to pick all that up.

Re: ROOT SOCIETY 2012
PRetty sure the point here goes way beyond the subject of MOOP, and nobodys arguing that all kinds of peeps go to the sound camps, not just young ravers.
Its the fact that the sound camps have gotten REALLY big and their sound, energy, etc, might be taking over a bit too much for the city these days is what I am gathering and agreeing with. They are a major part of BMan, always have been, but some people these days tend to treat BMan like a festival. They download the Rockstar Librarian guide and hit up their fav DJs every night, which is their right.....but thats just less people being involved in the city as a whole and more people that go for the sole reason of being at the raddest rave on the planet.
And its just the facts, sometimes high concentrations of people lead to weird energy. There might be a lot of good peeps at the sound camps but I am more likely to interact with them at a piece of art or a backstreet bar.

If you ravers really wanted to contribute to LNT, you'd invent a plastics magnet.
DPW could use one on the Playa Zamboni.

Not to mention you could sell it to some do-gooders in boats (greenpeace?) and maybe even get an award from the EPA...

Re: ROOT SOCIETY 2012
paulo, you are very observant...
i did the early morning mooping as you described because its my habit and tradition and i find the best drugs on the ground that time of day.
the space underneath the platforms covered with scrim was filled with stuff as you described....little bits of little pieces of plastic shit and various dollar store trinkets...
and pills..
i think the issue is greatly affected by demographics as well....extraordinary high proportion of newbs....high percentage of these newbs drawn by EDM (electronic dance music) and not art or radical expression. We were the giant Duraflame Log to these Moths that mistook us for Real Fire.
they brought their detritus with them too.
again, maybe im an asshole, but dear god, if you pack it in, pack it out, its that fucking simple.
if you can carry 100 whipits across to playa, instead of depositing them in lovely little piles, why not carry them back with you.
cuz its Not Funny.
i dont know...i suppose im an idiot to expect that if you open a biker Bar, there would be no fights, or if i opened a veggie restaurant there would be no yoga fliers, so i guess to open a large sound camp and not expect E-Tards is ridiculous, and im an fool for thinking otherwise.
next year, i'm making art.

Hey Simon
I think the noobs thing is variable. Remember that the Krug krew were 'experienced' burners
In contrast, many of the noobs are the most inspired and least cynical, they just need good role models. Of course I would say that, being a noob.
If I had any cynicsm, it would be weekenders. It's not that they ruin things as such, more that you appreciate the *hurt* of that place by being there for a week or so. And by extension, I can understand DPW being on different mental plane altogether.

Re: ROOT SOCIETY 2012
Paulo, we had some Great Stealth Newbs...
Them two Weird British Guys
yuri and steve k...bri
all took to it like dustfish..
alot of newbs "get it" whatever "it" is...alot of vets act like they don't...and not all ravers are e-tards, nor is all EDM Crap...
i listen to happy hard-core, but im fucked up that way...
anyway, this is not an indictment of the newbs but more a critique of a certain segment that just comes to rave, and never interacts with the rest of the BRC.
and i loves me a good ho-down with mind bending sound systems, but thats only a portion of the huge buffet available, and should be sampled, but not eaten all week, every meal.
and if you're gonna go big, you better have a big plan in place with proper resources alloted to clean big.
one last thought, since a deep playa ghetto has some inherent problems why not a throwback to earlier days and make a disturbia side and quiet-town on the other (i.e. Large sound only placed on one street, 10 or 2, and have their sound point out towards deep playa.)
the other corner would be reserved for mimes, and helen keller seminars.

My god... last time I did HHC I was blasting some remix of tetris out of a car in some shitty neighborhood in Detroit while driving back from an Underworld show in 99 or so. It was on a casette tape.
Does that stuff still exist? Maybe it is the answer to all your problems.

That would be rad. I would spend one morning in the untz zone, and the next doing yoga and drinking tea with Helen Keller wannabees.
The way it is now does give the city a nice C balance, though. The 10 and 2 corners like to hold that space it seems. I like the idea of only having one side, too. Or, just not have the sound camps stretch all the way up the streets. They are huge crazy city blocks now compared to 2005 or even 07. dang, Root Society in 07 seemed practically *cozy* compared to now! Remember when the only other largeish sound camp over there that year was Rednose Big Top on like 8:30? It just seemed a little more balanced when it was like that. OMG it was so much cooler when I was a kid!!

Bunch of hand-waving if you ask me. I recall when the org decreed a Quiet Side, they still put Bianca's Smut Shack out at the Esplanade & South 20th / 2:00 corner in '98 & '99 respectively. While they were relatively quiet during the week, they cranked up a throbbing canned-music sound system the last couple of nights days/nights. My friends' camp a couple hundred feet away had art installations that employed barely-audible ambient sound that got completely drowned out. Don't think the AEZ people were happy either. Fucking smut shacks with fucking friends in the org, same old fucking story every year.
Nobody goes for the quiet or the dark anymore, Simon. Maybe in May or June, or October; can't get away from the bozos in July anymore. Yeah, still bitter after all these years.

thats what happens when you dont have a moop plan, or the resources and manpower assigned to do it.
a shit show.
on behalf of my former camp, all i can say is i'm sorry. I thought i was being a "Good Burner"
stick me in the spandex prison for 20 years, i deserve it, i should have known, but i was too busy with my meglomania to see the forest thru the tipis.
Inside The Rave™, i think will be the working title...i'll have plenty of time to finally write.
