@ Trilo. Yes that map looks exactly like the maps located in the plazas and Artery 'back room' Don't know about the methods used to create it, but it looks like the maps posted in those locations the last 2 years.

It's HD Time! Not quite as big as last year since all my large file sharing services went down. Every one I've seen so far only allows you to email a link, not have a general share.. Any suggestions so I can start uploading the big ass files? I like the huge versions as they let you zoooooom way in. Also they piss off BBadger, which is a priority.
Anyway...

Is there any way to get a higher resolution image of the camp placement layout map before the MOOP colors are added? - One in which the camp names are legible?

I spent at least 4 hours searching for that after 2011 and finally found a bunch of photos of various pieces. Can't remember who posted it.

I'm happy the 2+ hours my camp mates and I spent cleaning the area around our camp of cigarette butts and the remnants of a futon that caught on fire paid off at 8:15 & Iris. We didn't do so well cleaning up the wood slivers left behind our camp, hence the yellow mark.

They changed the MOOP map to a non-high resolution image for DAY 1 and DAY 2 MOOP maps now... to prevent finger pointing (and transparency). Save the MOOP map in this thread while you can.

So we can expect that the moop map they're going to display at the Frisco decompression party actually will be a giclée print cleverly photoshopped to avoid fingerpointing, with a faux patina of playa dust, sweat and Gatorade stains?

From numerous conversations I've had with DA (head of playa restoration), the intention has never been for public shaming, but for camps to be able to get feedback on how they've done. I don't know if the lower resolution image in today's post was intentional or not (or for that matter, if using the higher resolution images in the earlier posts was intentional or not), but I imagine the map that's posted at decompression won't be obscured (just as it hasn't been in previous years, when online images were lower resolution).

HD Moop Map for Day 2
For some reason Rapidshare lists it as 0x0 pix, but when you DL it it's the normal 4668 × 3676 pixels.
On that note: Still looking for a place to host the big files... Any suggestions?

Playa MOOP zamboni FTW..

Hahaha - the guys at Acme camp built and brought out a Flamboni this year. Mini-sized mutant vehicle designed to clean up the footprints and impact left by the Walking Beast. Great little car, looked like a miniature zamboni, it pulled a 2 foot diameter water-filled barrel to reduce the footprint impact… and of course was also fitted with a flamethrower.

I see red and yellow just where I suspected I'd see it, most likely from BURN SCARRING, due to sloppy, careless manning (? if at all) of burn barrels blazing away less than a foot from the playa surface. Talking to the owners of those fires did nothing out there, except bum them out and spoil their burn/moment/day/campfire, boohoo! It didn't seem to matter to them because every night those barrels were ablaze, nothing was corrected and still, there they were blazing away and melting the playa surface. I'm not a fire cop but... Wow! IMO there were some blatant messy 'campfires' going on this year (maybe next year they'll plan better?) I hope so 'cause I like to warm up next to a PROPERLY MANNED burn barrel (and I bring some awesome fire tricks to the ones doing it right.)

Our burn barrel is about 2 feet up off the ground, and we put a metal oil pan under it. Next year, I'd like to get one of these welder's blankets to put under all that.

A welder's blanket will burn through if you let hot coals sit on it. Either use a sheet of tile backing board, or make a 2x wood frame, staple any old cloth on the underside, and fill it with an inch or two of sand.

I made a burn barrel with a sliding cover for the bottom.....ashes! put catch pan under, open cover, let ashes fall in, close cover.........repeat.

I don't think hot coals would hit it. I'd still have the metal oil drip pan directly under the burn barrel.
