Not to take anything away from diane o'thirst or any of the other defenders. But do you think the roast would have died down as fast as it did if M-Files wasn't a woman?

Are men seeking relationships or encounters seen as creepy but a woman seeking the same things isn't?

Sorry..."Emperor Wolf" is my euphemism for "Mr. Right." Somewhat specious and definitely rambly backstory to that...look me up sometime and I'll elucidate...

It appears that any serious note on this thread is immediately inundated by the deluge of silliness that has settled around us... Can't any of you ever lay your sense of humor aside and give life the careful, thoughtful, consideration it demands? We have some serious issues to confront here...

Like, where you can buy clown noses and shoes at a bulk rate for the "Clown Singles" party that we should have next year at the Meet and Greet? I mean, this is serious!!!

HONK!

ok, so part of my problem with this whole bit was that the vast majority of Marie's postings - THAT I'VE SEEN - have been almost exact replicas of this invitation. she said the same thing about 6 times in this one thread alone, and i've seen several other threads dedicated to plugging her group.

i'm sure she's doing it in the best possible mind-set. since ya'll know her, i'm gonna trust that she's sincere about her gift. frankly, i know lots of folks who have had good luck with singles forums. i just can't imagine doing it myelf, but that's because it's not the way i operate. it's just a preference.

i'm sure we all come across as spamming sometimes - i could be accused of the same when it comes to politics, probably. but i felt damn spammed by the constant messages about burningsingles (ok, so i think i've also seen it on local lists, that could be why). then add the 'drivel' repetition in. although we may not have been nice about it, we had a very valid point, and the childish, uncontrolled responses that we received from M-Files did nothing to address valid issues and were frickin' annoying. otherwise, marie, i *might* have cut you more slack.

apologies if you've done tons of other posting..... perhaps i just haven't read it (i know i've seen your posts, at least). it's just that it's gotten to the point that M-Files=Burning Singles..... and if i've seen that many posts re: burningsingles but you don't understand the whole 'cites' bit, i tend to think you haven't really been interacting on this board, just plugging...

tel me if i'm wrong, i'd love for it to be true.
cheers.

'Tel' as in tel aviv, or '
'tel' as in something from another language i can't quite remember.

Okay, as the one who said "cites" here's my two cents.
I'm fine if people want to seek burner partners. Better than ending in a self-destructing "mixed marrage." (NOT that all do--but it could be a fatal stressor.)
The MrFishist made it possible for me to attend BM, but he's so focused on being a medic that he's not a good person to see the city with.

Yeesh.

And here I thought I was too argumentative and enjoyed a good debate a little too much.

You guys actually ripped into someone for suggesting love is a good thing and who was offering to hook you up with some?

It is definitely reality check time.

As I recall the objection was that the suggestion was that coupledom is the happier state. Many singles disagree with that. *shrug*

First, excuse my absence but I had to dedicate yesterday to business (the kind that makes me money) and was away from this list.

Now on to the (continued) pedantics......

Obviously, some of you weren't comfortable with the first line in my original post: "Everything is better when you're part of a happy, loving couple" or something.

Great! You've proved what advertisers have known for years, i.e. that personal hot buttons or lines like "Coke is it!" really work. Those who are interested will try it, those who have no use for it will move on. But at least the product gets noticed.

Based on your emotional responses, I will continue to use that line when I advertise my group. Perhaps I should change the opening line to something like: "You MUST have a partner to enjoy Burning Man!" ;)

Rian - you can dispense with your hypocrasy. You continually use this board to post ads for your little parties and questions about local lists so that you can advertise your little parties even more. We're both advertisers for a gift (well, at least I'm offering mine as a FREE gift) for Burners.

Now here's a question for all of you: I'm amazed that you only took issue with the very first line in my original post. Did you even read the rest of it? Are you SURE that there isn't another line that hits home or causes you some offense? What about the part that my group isn't a sex site? Don't you want to argue that too? Tell me what other lines hit some hot buttons for you. I need to know what else to emphasize when I continue to advertise my group.

:)

P.S.: A VERY BIG THANK YOU to all the wonderful comments from some of you. Your support is very appreciated and also reminds me how much my group is needed. You are very welcome to join anytime you need or want our services. ;)

I'm waiting for the nuns and priests to complain, then the polyamorous group will step up.

Just out of curiousity- is this a hetero or any orientation group?

this is interesting... i haven't thrown a party since... march... which was never on these boards....
i've never made money off of an event.. wait 20 bucks at a fundraiser a year ago... that went to me.. and haven't done those in ages....

maybe you have the wrong person here, M-Files?

sorry if comments about bcwa came off as advertisment, i just wanted to get to see some of my friends who are on this board in person. you know, building regionals is what a lot of folks are doing right now. to do that, you generally give people in your region an opportunity to network... especially if they're asking you for the information. if i wanted to advertise, then i guess i'd send them to the announce list, now wouldn't i? and if you're referring to the LL, it's a bar, not a party, and it's not even my bar.

but here, next time i'll use this plug:
'Jesus folks! I can't believe you're going to BurningMan without being on the regional list! Isn't your life empty? Aren't you seeking something more? Come join the x-regional listserve, and find out what it's all about. Because right now, you're a lame-assed burner pretend who is actually really unhappy! Be one of the cool kids! Spend too much time on your computer! Hooray!'
or something to that effect.

i'm cool with my conscience.

regardless, this is more an intellectual joust than an emotional battle, sorry to disappoint ya. you seem far more emotionally invested in this than other folks here - which is natural, considering that you consider this to be a *rejection* of your gift. Which, BTW, i don't think it is.

i'm sure you're a sweetheart, but i can't help labeling you, in my own mind, as a

TROLL!!!

seriously. do whatcha want babe. i'm perfectly happy to let you, and disregard what you have to say...
best of luck with your group! hope it brings many happy hearts together.

I hereby apologize to Rian! I'm sorry Rian - I confused you with somebody else. I don't apologize for using this board to advertise a free gift to Burners, but I sincerely apologize for confusing you with somebody else and for accusing you of something you didn't do.

Rob - as mentioned on my home page, my group is for all sexual orientations. Jeez.....did anybody read past the first line?.... ;)

Please continue to refer single burners to my home page.

Anything longer than 5 sentences is disregarded whenever there is anything vaguely shiney in my immediate vicinity. Blame adult ADD. I've never really had the attent- HEY, A SHINEY QUARTER!

Uhm...what were you saying? Something about midget porn? IF not, could you please talk about midget porn. Thank you for your cooperation...

BTW, I'm taking your advice re: neighbers and power mower. They have 3 Bush/Cheney sings up, which is not that big a deal, but they also have a Yes on 36 sign up. This changes the Oregon Constitution to define marraige as between one man and one woman. Now THAT deserves the power mower treatment. Keep your fucking nedneck asses out of other people's happiness and bedrooms. Not my personal cup of tea, but it would put a final death toll to some really nice folk's marraiges.

I see. So you're saying that if someone makes a kind offer to you but doesn't phrase it correctly to the 19th decimal point, you feel justified in giving them a huge ration of shit, which basically is the result of your own emotional reaction, rather than anything they've actually done to injure you?

Nice.
