Burn Virgin from Western Australia

Post by HaremHal » Sat Mar 09, 2013 9:34 pm

Hi All

Well, this was going to be an intro from a mate and I. He's just pulled the plug, so it looks like it's just me right now with two tickets. Whilst I might be a BM virgin, (and never been to US) I am fairly well experienced in various other forms of outback self sufficiency, fun and frivolity, with just a touch of naughtiness thrown in for good measure.

Newly single, just turned the big Five-O yesterday (shit), but some say I don't look a day over 49!

Right now, I have no idea of what I will do with the other ticket, but I think in the spirit of BM, I would like to use the opportunity to somehow meet some new people, so I'm open to that.

My plan was (and I think, still is) to hire an RV, set up the West Aussie Embassy, with barbie, cold Aussie beer, various other hospitality and vicious Australian creatures such as the very much feared Drop Bear.

Looking forward to the auspicious occasion. Drop me a line if you like.

Hal

Hey Hal, welcome to Eplaya!

A Melbourne burner here.

Sounds like there's a fair bit of planning left to do! My advice is to get onto the vehicle hire ASAP, you may find that hiring further away is easier/ more available.

Plenty of info can be found in historic threads and since self self sufficiency is the key searching before asking is appreciated as a rule (google eplaya...).

Happy to help out where/ if I can and if in need would happily buy the spare ticket ;-) (expect more requests)

Standard advice, good advice at that, is to read the survival guide but it really is just that; a survival guide and does not cover subtleties or the like. Happy to chat (like I need an excuse to chat about BM) PM me if keen,

Hey Hal, hopefully to help with your RV quest...

We booked a Cruise America RV http://www.cruiseamerica.com/ through Camper Travel America http://www.campertravelusa.com/ last year (the resellers get much better prices for overseas customers for some reason).

Whilst they were really good last year this time round they couldn't find me the right size vehicle at the right location so we ended up booking through an Aussie company:
http://www.motorhomebookers.com/austral ... tralia.htm

If you've looked already you'll have seen that the closer you get BRC the more expensive the rental gets and it is very unlikely you'll find one in Reno or San Francisco now.
Great excuse for a road trip!

Also expect big deposits for cleaning etc. - I looked for a large number of quotes and found that some of these were actually charges - escape campers springs to mind.

Stacks of info here if you have not already seen it:

Welcome.... Has the weather broke yet? A friend of mine was telling me it's the 10th day with the weather hitting 35.... Hopefully you get some rain and a nice breeze soon!
