Need advice for first BM experience- coming from MD!

Post by popqueen23 » Mon Mar 18, 2013 7:50 pm

Hello! My boyfriend and I can't wait to come to Burning Man this year and we're currently trying to work on transportation vs preparedness plans. We don't have a theme camp to go to so we're trying to figure out how to get bikes, water, tent, etc without spending a fortune on shipping. We are also looking to pair up with people that will either have drums and/or a piano so we can gift voice, piano and drum lessons to anyone interested. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Welcome.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Make connections with your local regional contacts in either MD or DC:

http://regionals.burningman.com/us_md_bt.html
http://regionals.burningman.com/us_dc_was.html

Therein lay vast resources to aid you in your logistics planning.
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

Hello and welcome to ePlaya! My advice would be to read the first timer's guides and survival guides, then start surfing around and browsing the boards. You'll find a lot of the questions you might have concerning preparation in the Preparation section, and then year-specific stuff like camps (in case you're looking to find one to join or want tips for starting your own), art, and rideshare stuff in the year-specific forum (2013 Event). As others suggested, the regional group is also an awesome resource - there are plenty of DC area and east coast burners out there who can give you additional help, as well as possibly meet up with at events in your area between now and August.

Thanks everyone! Yes I already belong to the social media groups for burners around the area so I'll definitely continue to check around there. Ride share forums sound great, I'll make sure to look out for the 2013 forum! Thanks all :).
