Picture of a 2013 ticket
Picture of a 2013 ticket
Hey Burners - I've been e-stalking eplaya for last few months and am so grateful for all of the info provided. Question: I already have a ticket purchased but it has not arrived yet. I'm trying to buy 2 more tickets so that I can gift them to a couple of friends who need to experience the playa. (side note, is the playa really on the planet earth or when you turn off the paved road are you moving through a star-port? Each time I go I can't seem to figure this out???) Anyway, I think I have a strong lead but would like to see a picture of the 2013 ticket just in case the sell gets theirs before I receive mine. How long does it usually take to see a picture of a real ticket show up?

lemur - I'm not a counterfeiter at all but thanks for the confidence. I'm actually a member of Anonymous Village and am sincer in my request. The person I'm trying to purchase tickets from is in New York and I'm in California so it makes it a bit hard to do a hand to hand exchange. The best plan I can come up with is to have the seller forward me her confirmation email and send a picture of the tickets once they arrive. I then have a very close friend who knows nothing about BM but has agreed to make the purchase in person so I want to provide him a picture of what to expect. I'm just trying to cover my ass as $800 (400x2) is a lot of money to get fucked over. Does that sound like the best way to prevent fraud?

Avoiding Fraud & Buying Third Party Tickets:
[expand all]
How can I tell if a ticket is real?
Your best assurance is by buying it from someone you know and trust. Our tickets have numerous physical security features, unique foils, embossings, and variable data. Remember, just because a ticket is real, doesn't mean it is still valid.
How can I know that the ticket I'm buying is valid?
The only real way to know a ticket is real and valid is to buy it from someone you know and trust. Before you buy a ticket from a third party, check to make sure it is not listed as a ticket number that has been canceled or voided. (Voided ticket list will be posted at a later date)
If I buy a ticket on eBay, Stub Hub or a re-seller site is it still valid?
We have no problem with people selling their unneeded tickets for face value (plus service fees) and this is possible to do using eBay's "Buy it now" feature. If a ticket has been auctioned and/or sold for high above its face value, we may have canceled and voided that ticket. To be safe, you should never pay above face value for a ticket.
How can I buy a third party ticket safely?
The safest way to buy a third party ticket is by buying it from STEP or directly from someone you know. Second to that, your safest bet is buying a ticket from someone in your immediate community of Burners.

Re: Picture of a 2013 ticket
I'm not sure how seeing a picture can protect you. The BEST thing you can do is to buy from someone you know. Also, get into the STEP program. If you buy local from Craigslist, you can meet the person face to face and see your tickets before you exchange cash.
This is a good place to warn people about ticket scams. Sending money and getting an empty envelope sent. Counterfeit tickets. There are a million scams out there, and people need to be on their guard. I really hate to hear the stories after someone paid several hundred dollars for air!

Thanks everyone for the imput. I just thought if I knew what it looked like, it would be helpful with the verification. I guess I'll send pictures of 2011 & 2012 to my friend making the transaction and then just hope fot the best. I don't know about you guys but I HATE waiting for Burning Man to get here! FUCKKKKK!!!! Sitting here at my desk in my government job isn't making it any easier. Last year, I wore a suite and tie the first day back to work just to try to get my head back in the game.

Usually as soon as someone familiar with eplaya receives a hard copy it's scanned and posted on here.
Also scanned pictures end up all over Facebook. The holograms and other things are hard to fake.

Ticket shipping has begun
Got an email with tracking number from the org.
For the record, mine is a holiday ticket.
Interestingly, I also have a regular price ticket order and confirmation, but the shipping email did not mention that. I guess I'll see if it contains all of them, but I'm guessing they'll ship separately.

I guess mine arrived early. Here's a shot of it on a beautiful background photo to keep your attention:

They said they were to begin shipping 5-3 and conclude on 5-15, I'm kinda surprised one hasn't turned up yet.
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

Re: Picture of a 2013 ticket
I think you've got dates confused. I believe it's in both the JRS and the ticketing support board the shipping process begins in June (it started earlier this week), and should conclude in mid-July.

My bad, I misread. It states 6-3-13 thru 7-15-13. I thought both of those where in June...oops

No worries - and it's perfectly understandable, we all wish they'd be sent by the end of June.

Doesn't the fine print in PayPal say something about protecting buyers and sellers if either party reneges on a deal? I'll have to go look at that.

It may say that. Doesn't mean that they will actually do it.
I don't know if that's the case, but I think it's happened with some service...

There is supposed to be protection of some kind (yeah, definitely satisfy your curiosity and protect yourself) . . . but if there's anything I've heard over and over it's "Don't mark it as a gift". Paypal transactions marked "gift" are not protected.dragonpilot wrote:Doesn't the fine print in PayPal say something about protecting buyers and sellers if either party reneges on a deal? OMG that ticket is super cool! It is so shiny!
Re: Picture of a 2013 ticket
Thank you all for posting!!! I ended up sending some money to my friend who will be completing the transaction. Luckily, he found out that many of his coworkers are burners and will help with the exchange. I'm getting tired of waiting for August 26th.

I never end up feeling that way (can't wait for the gates to open) - for me it's a mad scramble to try and get things finished. At times I almost wish it were a little further out.

I'm just about to start my thesis for my MBA so thinking about BM is my great salvation! I'm going to be done 2 weeks before the gate opens, what a great way to unwind from school.

Re: Picture of a 2013 ticket
yeah...checked the PayPal User Agreement and confirmed that PayPal will cover the purchase of a tangible item, including a paper ticket, if the seller defaults. One's purchase date is recorded thru PayPal to assist in confirming one's claim. Unclear how PayPal accepts one's claim as legitimate...you could PayPal something, receive it, then say you didn't and file a claim with them...hmmmmmm. However, the seller has to be registered in PayPal as well...my head hurts.dragonpilot wrote:Doesn't the fine print in PayPal say something about protecting buyers and sellers if either party reneges on a deal?
