Tent Placement??

Hello again all,

So as I'm still getting the hang of all this I have a some more questions.

1) I'm camping with a tent. Do I have to camp in the "walk-in camping area" 2:00 to 5:00 if I'm not apart of a community, village, theme camp etc?
2) Is there tent camping that is not secluded off in the distance?
3) Are there many camps out there that don't require dues? This seems to be a taboo subject as I have reached out to several "community's" via private message. It seems as though I get a message that oh btw our community dues are $400 but I'm not supposed to post this. (I used the most expensive reply so bare with me) I'm not looking to show up and pay for my burn. And I'm certainly not in it to drain my camp-mates resources. But I also don't want to be in the "quiet zone".

Basically I would like to roam around and say well this seems like an awesome place to live for the next week, and post up. Does this seem unreasonable or perhaps even rude?

Any Suggestions?

You can setup your tent anywhere camping is allowed, subject to not being in a reserved space, nor inside someone's camp.

Walk-in camping is for those wanting to get away from RVs and other vehicles, and have more solitude. Don't worry, you'll still hear BRC just fine.

Not at all. Tents are all over the city. "Walk-In Camping" is a slightly isolated spot where a few determined folks who are particularly handy and self-reliant like to leave their vehicles and tote their items beyond, on foot. It's the quietest place in the city. It's also more windy but there's less dust in said wind because there's no one driving on it. I don't recommend camping out there your first year unless you're completely self-reliant, have amazing staking skills and want to be virtually alone with your thoughts (which is not a bad thing).

There are camps that are free. I can think of three right off of the top of my head (Little Orphan Annex, Stag Camp, Bloodbath & Beyond) and there are probably several more, but Orphan and Stag are done with their recruitment process for the year--not sure about BB&B. Free camps tend to be very up front about it because 1) it's attractive, and 2) they're offering experienced company and maybe group shade, not plush accommodations, and seek like-minded people.

Any camp that offers meals, water, or showers is not going to be free (of course). Shade you can sometimes get for free. Hundreds of dollars is of course pretty steep, but there are a number of camps that offer just a few things for considerably less.

That's pretty much how anyone finds a spot if they're not part of a placed camp. It's not that you'll join a camp spontaneously (that would be rude unless invited) but that you are becoming neighbors with someone.

Pay attention to the map you get at the Greeter's station when you come in, avoid Theme Camp areas, and drive up to an empty spot. Ask anyone near you if they mind. If there's no one around and it's not reserved according to the map, it's probably yours for the taking. Don't be too close to the portapotties unless you can sleep through the doors slamming. Watch out for stages and speakers, and the 10 o'clock and 2' o clock neighborhoods. Those are the noisiest.

Another free village is Hushville. We are at 5 and D. Hush is no generators and no amplified music. This includes not running your car to charge batteries. However, preregistraion is required, and it closes soon. Great village as a base for exploration, you have friendly neighbors, but no gennies shoved up against your head. We also are implementing a mentor program which pairs vets and burgins, so you can pair up and ask away.
