My girlfriend ordered a shipment of lemons, so I can make more limoncello to take with us to the playa next year.

You use commercially grown lemons? Regular lemons? Isn't that kind of a sin when there are so many Meyer's available locally?

I don't care whether you think it's a sin or not. Our local sources didn't have what would be needed for the project, so she made other arrangements to get quality organic lemons from a supplier in the region. I'm happy that she did it, the window for me to get batches started to have for next year's burn is closing.

I doubt you'll be pouring a taste of ice-cold, acidic yet mellow, golden sweet ambrosia and someone says "Commercial lemons? Ew...."

Wrote a short story and thought up a costume to perform it in while walking around my first burning man.

Looked up, and began practicing different knots I think I may want to know. (Such as a taut-line hitch)

That is the knot I use.. They are easy to adjust during the week in the wind.. Easy to break "untie" at the end of the week..

Yea I used to sail, and I used this one and a bowline knot a lot, but I have really forgotten all of my knot lectures haha. Brushing up on the ones I mostly remember, and trying to identify new ones that seem useful at BRC.

Being fast to tie a bowline is the best thing you can learn in knots..

Significant other verified that the week before Labor Day next year will be free of schoolwork. Looks like I'll have a virgin in tow!

Picked up his tent today. It's a 4 person dome with a locker area for storage.
Got it for $20 on Kijiji

I'll need to cover some mesh but it's in good condition.

If I might make a suggestion, close the main "big" door, and put your bed at that end of the tent. Then only come in the smaller side door. That way, when you step into the tent your about 5 or so feet away from your bed to take off your shoes and pants.
We have a very similar tent and found this method keeps the dust down on the "bed side" of the tent.

Bowlines (I recommend the cowboy variant), taut lines (yes, plural), running loops (either butterfly loop or directional figure 8, I recommend the latter), and simple hitches (becket and half hitch) are all pretty important if you're building anything. It pays to learn them well and practice them until you can tie them in the dark while wearing gloves, because you'll have to.

Also, figure out what knots work well with the rope you'll be using. I used mule tape this year because the stuff is dirt cheap and VERY strong, but that stuff will not hold a taut line hitch under any circumstances. It's just too slippery. I tied a bowline around my canopy fixture then tied directional 8s most of the way down the line before running it through my rebar candy cane loop then back through the loop from the directional 8. The resulting "pully" let met pull the lines incredibly taut before tying it off with the half hitches right against the running 8 loop. All 17 lines held all week without budging.

Remember, radical self reliance. If you forget something and your camp is relying on you, well, even if you neighbors are willing to help there's no guarantee that they'll be able to. On a related note, my apologies go out to the winery at 8:30 and B this year who asked for my help in remembering how to tie a few knots late one night mid-week. I was less than sober. I think I explained it well enough, but then I wasn't there when your structure actually went up...

I do plan on using the locker entrance to reduce the dust. That's part of what I liked about this tent.

Thanks for the comment. It shows my thinking is going in the right direction.

Scored a very fine mailbox from the thrift store for a dollar.
