YAY!!! Congrats you 2!!! The energy in that video is contagious! Love it!!
I found 2 pairs of goggles and 2 light up bracelets that were supposed to make the journey this year, but somehow got misplaced and will go in a tote for the next burn.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I spent Sunday, all day, driving, preparing for a road test so that I can drive to Burning man or help someone else drive if it's necessary. I haven't needed a license for anything else so far, and going years between driving makes you surprisingly rusty. Also driving into work each day with my wife, so that's been a little bit of experience each day.
Found some decent lanterns online and looked into ways around the heavy cost of flying with gear.(As I work for a film production studio, and most camping equipment can be considered gear for filming, most airlines have a cheaper rate for production equipment under 100lbs)

These are nice to help you remember your knots..sppryor wrote:Looked up, and began practicing different knots I think I may want to know. (Such as a taut-line hitch)

Put a little paracord through the eyelet and leave it out by your couch.. Or on your desk and just practice a series of knots whenever you notice it there. It will be second nature.
Re: One Item for BM a Day
I have a 600 page knot book. (1944) It's one of the least read in my library.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Looked into emergency prep for dealing with poisonous insects/snakes.
Identification:
Rattlers are easy enough to notice and fear
Coral Snakes :"Red touch black, you're OK Jack; Red touch yellow, you're dead fellow"
First Aid:
Looked into a small poison extractor kit I can carry around with me. Found a dozen or so options. The smallest and most convenient ones are like a small pill bottle in size.
Sure, snakes/scorpions may not be lethal in most cases, but that doesn't mean not to be ready in case.

Are you sure that's not red touch yellow, good for a fellow? I caught a mountain king and was told I risked life and limb by not knowing the rhyme.

There are neither snakes nor skeletons in the Black Rock Desert.
And, I've heard that those sucking things don't do much.

Unless you go hiking in the surrounding hills you won't run into any snakes. And the scorpions in n. Nv are not lethal, unless you're super old, a baby or allergic.
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

You guys managed to drift 19 consecutive posts on a single topic!
I think there's a need for a "Bone Art & Craft" thread. I've split all of the strategy, links and know-how off into its own thread. (I was tempted to put it under Clothing and Playawear, but I'm sure some folks would like to work with bones simply as display pieces.)
Find the new thread here . . .

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I replaced my headlight lenses on my truck. The old ones were very dull and yellowed. Polishing them with a kit didnt work so I opted to replace them.
When my sister and I drove out this year we couldnt drive much at night because they were not bright enough and due to the fact that we had so much "STUFF" in the back that the headlights werent aimed at the road anymore!
We took advantage of the time spent driving home to go through the STUFF TO BRING and STUFF WE DIDNT NEED lists to hopefully cut down on what we bring with us next time!

I picked up what I hope will give me some piece of mind when I use the porta potties. That is the only time I trust my good karma to protect my ride. It's a cabinet lock that keeps the baby out. You have to hold down 2 buttons and pull the zip tie to get it open. A breeze to put on and a little knowledge to get off. I like it! I can tie it on an inconspicuous spot and face the buttons inward.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Because....The JOTS are the only place where I leave my bike unlocked. (When you gotta go......). This thing is no trouble to put on in a hurry but a puzzle to get off if you don't know how it works. I can quickly strap it around my frame and a couple of spokes. The bike won't roll away while I'm peeing.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
The talk of bike locks has me thinking I might invest in a U-lock with combo for the portos. I have been walking when near camp and when out and about, and nature calls, I hold it and lock the dang bike. Tired of dealing with the curly chain, a quick u-lock would be nice. I will spend some time researching this evening...
And my one item for the day: I bought a pattern for a cloak off Ebay. Now that I have also looked at fabric I realize I should have bought that cloak last week at the antique fair for $40.
But If I had bought the cloak, I wouldn't have the satisfaction of making my own.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I'm a sucker for the clearance aisle. Today I bought battery op. lights that look just like an old fashioned lightbulb and fixture. Complete with a pull chain. They were originally $10 for a pkg of 2. I scored for just $2. I figure they will look great on a hat or helmet. Now, what to put them on?
OK. I bought 2 packages but that's only because there weren't more.
