I am sorry, but TomServo is correct by using an apostrophe. It shows ownership, and the purpose is for eplaya. It can be worded as, "the purpose of eplaya". Check it out Miss Fishy and let me know what you think!

It's one of those things he had to correct on me several times until i got it! apparently it's a big joke amongst academic types....

Sham, your logic is good. Seems to me, we use "Jane's notebook" to differentiate from "Janes", which is the plural of Jane (two or more ladies named Jane).

It is true... we could argue that "its" means two or more items called "it". But "its" is actually a word that includes the possessive without using the apostrophe as in "Jane's notebook". Yes, it is a whole individual word with its own distinct meaning, separate from the general use of the possessive "s".

Language is not entirely rational. Language is always in a state of evolution. For clarity, it seems best to use current convention -- current practice. By that standard, TS wrote gibberish.

In journalism, writers follow a "style book", which contains all the correct current usage. The best known in the US is probably the one published by the Associate Press news agency. Style books are regularly updated. Some big newspapers have their very own style book.

I strongly disagree - TS made an error by using an apostrophe incorrectly, yet the meaning of his statement was clear. If it was "gibberish", it would make no sense, yet everyone here knows what he intended to say, otherwise you couldn't all be attempting to correct it while debating the finer points of apostrophe placement. Basically, this has all just become an exercise in pedantic thread-drift.

The problem with errors is that they CAN lead to misunderstandings. The example my mother taught me:

Maybe if the Governor had sent it in plain English there wouldn't have been an issue: "Don't hang him before I arrive".
There is also a vast difference between a comma, which can change the literal meaning of a sentence, and an apostrophe, which just mucks up a word a bit. And now I'm being pedantic as well (as well as starting a sentence with a conjunction, without joining it to something. Oh the humanity).
