Glue - What works?

I've seen references to glue in several posts on ePlaya. I'm wondering what type of glue I should use for best results (durability).

If possible, I will be sewing things together, but some Things I may be gluing are

Silk flowers to plastic
Craft gems to goggles
Fun foam feathers to ?
Velcro to plastic or wood

Normally I would just use my hot glue gun, but I've seen posts that say the hot glue will melt in the heat/sun.

I second Shoe Goo, or whatever it is called -- comes in many varieties under various names. I even suspect it is the same stuff that comes in black under the name E6000.

For anything that can be joined with anything other than glue, don't rely on glue. The vest I'm wearing in the picture on the right became my favorite article of clothing when I put it on Monday night and by the end of the week the wind had started pulling it apart. I was able to glue and stitch it back together, but I lost a lot of time working on it during the day and it took an emotional toll seeing it in disrepair. Playa time is precious, be smart and make stuff that will survive.

I'm making version 2 of the vest (with a slightly better fitting hood, hopefully) as soon as my ex gives me the remaining fabric back. It will probably be a lot worse (she made the last one and I have no idea what I'm doing) but it will be stitched and it will survive this time.

How does Shoe Goo react in the heat? Does it melt?
Glue guns are fine, but the glue is not flexible.

The Goop line of glues is fine, but for any heavy duty work I'm a big fan of Barge Cement (I even use it on any shoes that are falling apart - as long as you Follow The Instructions it works fantastic). The catch with Barge cement is (a) you need to be able to clamp the items, (b) it's a 24 hour drying time, and (c) it reeks to high heaven when drying

On specifics:
Silk flowers to plastic - depends a lot on the plastic. I would recommend at least E6000 or Goop

Craft gems to goggles - Goop, super glue, hot glue (if the goggles aren't flexible). I have a pair of goggles I hot glued gems on in 2003, the gems are still there (the strap is a different story...)

Fun foam feathers to ? - "fun foam" is usually EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate), and this is one of those places that hot glue is generally the best hold (it melts & bonds with the foam). The catch here is that if you're not gluing it to another piece of fun foam, the hot glue may not hold. For attaching them to something else I would highly recommend a physical connection - sewing, rivets, staples... You can try a craft glue, but I wouldn't guarantee the hold at all.

Velcro to plastic or wood - pretty much any craft glue, super glue...


UD: shoe goop is flexible (it's designed to fix shoes, after all), and I've never had a problem with it out there. I've switched to Barge Cement for my playa shoes however, since that shit will not come apart if it's applied right.

Shoe goo does fine with Playa-level heat but will burn nicely if you put it in fire.
It also has decent flexibility.
For best results, clean clean clean your surfaces.
Also for very smooth hard surfaces, rough them up or even make holes for the glue to penetrate.
Some plastics are jus a plain bitch to glue.

Eric's suggestion of Barge Cement is a good one and the stink is seriously toxic.
Barge cement also has some flexibility.

use shoe goo on my headdress , the horse hair is sewn on and I was worryied that it could be pulled out and be MOOP . So I put shoo goo all on the seams and never lost a hair.
