I finally got my bed set up and have the mattress off the floor, about 6 feet off the floor to be more precise. I need to be mindful for the next few nights when I get out of bed.[/quote]

   I would probably remember about half way to the floor....
Sounds like a cool set up..

Well, it's got enough clearance from the ceiling to sit upright. What I have done a few time though is throw the blankets off and whack my hand hard against the ceiling. (looking at my new ceiling, no popcorn, so that won't hurt the same) Also there is a railing (nice nesty cabin feel) so rolling out isn't possible.

good point, the fan did dictate the location of the bed altogether. Worst case scenario: lose a few toes.

YAY BVB!!! It'll be good to see you again!

This will be an especially excellent year since my sister, Delle, and her Ken will be there, too! Starting to look like every second year for them, and understandably so, considering the overall cost of getting there. Lucky for them, I can keep all their big stuff in AZ, and load it all up in my little car. (Actually, TinkerMom has been a great help in that department the last coupl'a years, with her trailer, and her living so close by.)

Last year, I was lucky enough to camp with my son (Aaronious), his dear friend (Paydirt) and their friend, Vicky.. it was Vicky's first burn. Definitely made an impression on her.

So far, every year has been an especially excellent year, even when I went alone! YAY!!

It'll be August before we know it!

I'm looking forward to it Patsh!

..and yeah, regarding the calendar, I've got a long weekend coming up, and I'm intent on using part of it to make headway on burn related stuff.

Long weekends are too few and far between, with so much to do. Now, I'm (more or less) 'semi retired', and have all this time to play with all sorts of projects. This is something I always thought I wouldn't live to see! It's amazing, and never boring!

One of these days, Delle and I will get on Skype, I'll haul all her burning stuff in front of the computer, and we'll go through it all, deciding what might be left behind this time. (So far, nothing's ever been rejected... she has good taste in burning stuff!)

dang, missed BVB......well yay for posting!!
and Patsh!!

got my apnea AHI index number from the doc: 62. he shook his head, when I asked if it's because I'm "too fat"......though he said I need to lose weight, he said it's just "how I was made". He said my tongue base was as big as he's ever seen, which is part of the problem,(though sorta made me proud, ), along with tonsils and stuff.

Sorta getting camping gear and stuff ready for "summer" season, and SOAK, I'll be working Gate up there in May.

Parked next to an 18-wheeler, Millicent looks puny.
I raised the roof only two feet, and regretted it. We could definitely use more room for the upper bunks.

All right... I'm starting a "football pool". (in jest)
How many camps will have a sign in their midway or arcade area saying "This Way To The Great Egress!"?
I'm putting my 50 cents on 350 such signs.

Why would there be lots of signs referring to egress? Because the GPE or DPW folks who do that section of the AfterBurn report learned a new word?

Dear, dear friend, Trilobyte... you are too delightfully young.
"This Way To The Great Egress" is the famous sign that P.T. Barnum installed in his sideshow, to hurry people along and out, so as to make room for new customers. Most of his customers, of course, assumed a Great Egress was some fabulous thing to see -- a ferocious beast, perhaps.
Or I am too old, or at least remember too many trivial things. :D :D

I'm with you Eliot. Actually the Great Egress is a distant relative of the Great Egret, just spelled a bit differently and more Emu like.

No doubt that was the sort of (false) word-association Barnum counted on. The Great Egress sounds like it would be a giant bird-woman from Africa (egret + Negress).

Oh I remember the signage, and actually saw a couple of the originals at the Ripley museum at Niagara Falls years and years ago. You didn't answer the question, though... why do you think there would suddenly be hundreds of people posting such a sign (after all, Barnum's been dead more than a century)? Maybe I missed an earlier conversation, but I couldn't help notice you posted it the same day that the AfterBurn report came out (the one that used ingress/egress in the GPE section). Then again, maybe it jumped out because I had just read that page before visiting the bar thread.

It will be interesting to see what elements from circus culture, and carnival culture, get strip-mined at the burn. Most people usually put their own take on stuff, and it turns into something different, fun, and new. If we're taking bets (purely in jest, of course) I'll say both red and white striped tarps/fabric and clowns will be much more popular. I wonder how many clown car mutant vehicles we might see?

my day got off to a late start on account of a stretchy cat laying on me. I figured I'd give her a few minutes to lounge around and maybe sleep in a bit, but then that turned into a long damned time... eventually our other cat came looking for her and started making noise to get her attention (which was really cute). Now I'm rushing around playing catch-up, I want to try and get some stuff done before diving into camp projects for the weekend.

Too late for coffee... time for brunch?

That's probably it, because it was pure coincidence from my side. I don't think I had even read the AfterBurn report yet. I was simply referring to the Carnival Of Mirrors theme. That Great Egress sign has for some reason stuck in my mind for decades. I probably assumed more people remembered it -- and was probably wrong about that.

You are no doubt right that there will be miles of red-and-white-striped canvas.
Clown cars sounds like a good bet too.
One of my camp-mates has volunteered to do Tarot Card readings, so we are expanding beyond bicycles & beverages.

It will be a glorious Burn!

Good Morning, All!

(It's afternoon here, but I'm drinking coffee and haven't yet eaten, so I decree it to be morning.)

I miss all of you, and look forward to seeing you in the desert.

That is all.
