I'm planning on coming. Do I really have to find it with lat. and long. coordinates? I could, but I may be a day or 2 late.

The first time I trekked up there I was very intimidated by the lat coordinates thing. I dont use a gps. Just get on the main dirt road and stay on it, it will make its way up the mountain, you will see signs posted for the hof. Right ygmir?

Google maps directions from your location to Bowman lake made it easy.

Switch to sat mode, and you can find the Hof roof when the route gets close to the lake.

Beautiful country up there. As a boy scout I went to Glacial Trails Scout Camp, the year Cassius Clay beat Sonny Liston. I fished Spaulding, Bowman, and all those little lakes they planted trout into. Have a great time y'all.

I am starting my venison jerky project...today. I have 125 pounds of meat to work with. I will bring some up, and the jam might be ready by then as well. There is a lot of fruit on the plants, just need 4-6 days of sun to get them to start to ripen. I will have to mail the jam out, as the TSA morons think it is "da bomb" and they won't let me fly with it. Idiots. (let's see...who to mail the jam jars to...hmmm......I can hear it now..."They never arrived.....burp!").

yeah just google the intersection of Bowman lake Rd, and Meadow Lake rd. Nevada county, ca.
on the sat map, from there, look 45 deg. north east and you'll see the Hof roof, an octagon, a few hundred feet away. turn left from that intersection, go about 100' and the drive is on the right. if you have 2wd, park at the bottom of the hill and walk up, we'll come down and get your stuff in the truck.

south west, I think. more south than west. if you find the intersection of Bowman and Meadow Lake roads, it's about a 45 deg. to NE. about 300'. dark brown octagon roof from the photo.

Mornin All!

Gotta go into Carson City to get a rental car then might go up to Cabellas to get a couple pairs of shorts. Supposed to be 91 in Fresno tomorrow.
To get to Fresno tomorrow I'm planning on taking 50 east from Dayton to the Ramsey-Weeks cut off to 95A toward Yerrington. Take 339 from Yerrington to 208 through Wilson Canyon to 338 over Sweetwater Summit and into California and on to Bridgeport. Stop at the Hay Street Café for breakfast in Bridgeport. Double back north on 395 to 108 over Sonora Pass. Then take county road J59 from 108 and meander down to Merced and on to 99 south to Fresno.
Hoping to leave Dayton around 05:30, no later then 6
Have a nice day

spent the weekend up at the Hof.
road report:
bumpy as ever. one 20' janky spot. if you have good off road skills, it'll be fine. Decent ground clearance would be helpful. Or a rental car..........
I'm trying to get USFS or the local water agency (both are working up there), to fix the spot, but don't know how that will go.
The other option would be to make a road crew of early arrivers and go fix it with shovels and rakes and rocks.

Canoe and kayak are already up there, and a few crawdad traps. A few more traps might be good, thought it takes over night to really catch them, and so it'd be lunch Sunday, I guess, unless you get there Friday.
