I can 't seem to find the "What happens if we stay closed too long?" article.  In short:    We wake up to a post apocalyptic economy; no jobs to go back to; monopoly money in our wallets; and govt aid is a meaningless exercise in hyperinflation. We will still be dying for lack of Covid19 vaccine, plus also dying of previously treatable ailments because we attritted irreplaceable healthcare workers while thinking we could flatten the curve indefinitely.

Of course we are not a real, sustainable cashless society. That does not negate the thousands of Burners who not only volunteer, but pay through the nose to be there. I think there may be a lot of dreamers that believe in the ideal. They are countered by the cynical plug and players and their gophers. Overall, I prefer not to be the cynic about all the amazing aspects of BRC. My biggest focus is on the massive and myriad art, and the incredible concept of creating it in such a remote and inhospitable environment. I appreciate the positive interaction with most other Burners, and the spontaneous meetings and friendships. But I also recognize that the background that maintains it all has to be in the real, hard nosed world of business and government. There are people making a very good living off this. That is what I see as the price for what is still a positive idea and experience. Do not blow off the unpaid effort of the volunteers. They are not suckers. They are keeping enough of the dream to make it remarkable for most of us.
