New propaganda poster thread
Hi Komrades.
Fantastic propaganda posters have been linked to by many here. 97 Of them have been accepted by the Ministers of Truth at http://www.mutantvehicle.com/hall_of_truths.htm
It occurs to me that we may be preaching to the choir and others not necessarily in our camp would love to see your work. Also, I would love to see some other camps join in the fun so I have started a new thread for you to post your future pearls of graphic wisdom to at:
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... da+posters
That way we can keep it roughly centered on Apokiliptika Kamp discussion here in this thread. The Hall of Truth will continue to feature only Apokiliptika posters. Fair 'nuff?
Yours in service, blindly committed to our great leap forward,

Perhaps you could email me a pic of one of them so as to see the possibilities. Perhaps placing them face in, inside a small box with the solar light fitted inside.
Play out the paranoia idea with this-- it seems to be right.
I was thinking of getting some of the solar powered lights- they only seem to need a dusting off of the photoelec panel now and then.
So many projects, so little time.

I like that little site for the Pikes of Paranoia. Perhaps the boxes can be made of corrugated plasic sheet, cut to fold into place. You can use cable ties to secure the box into the "deployed" state. The box would look like a square cardboard box opened out flat-- easy to transport.
I've been using the cable ties with great success on the Maniac Robot project. They also work real nice as a light substitute for screws on PVC joints. The hole needed is much smaller, and hence less chance of cracking the PVC when drilling.
I'll send a pic to you later tonight of the progress--- it's very slick.

Good points all, great leader. I could not have built the time machine without those zip ties. I also learned that they are super sharp when snipped on the end so a dab of hoop or silicon keeps them from acting like barbed wire. Since I store the mutant vehicle outdoors, I opted for the black ones that are "UV rated". For temporary use that would not be a problem.Kernul Killbuck wrote:Mista J

10-4 on the "shadow boxes". I'll look at some carboard business file boxed designed to be unfolded on the spot, then carve one up to size. The corrugated plastic I have folds well when you cut just one layer along the fold line.
What do you think, all black accept for the faces? 6-7 Feet high? Any designs or artwork on the mounting polls or shoud we keep it simple. Since they will be on the perimeter or darkest end of the camp we could paint the camp name down the length of the poll for a good day look. Then there is the wind factor. We don't want them spinning about on their rebar stakes.

Jellyfish-
just my 2 cents- all black except the faces sounds really cool. Do you think the camp name needs to be down the pole though? It might be cooler to just have the boxes on plain poles.
Man, the idea of these 'heads' on poles is reminding me of Apocalypse Now....

Rubber skulls are cool. They can be thrown, kicked like soccer balls, and made into bras, etc.
Don't forget the rubber chickens either. Impaled rubber chickens. Vlad would love it.
If Nat is out there... I found your camo undies site!
Bad Dawg and I were just talking this afternoon about the Kantina shade structure. This going to be a challenge. Helitack suggests a 20 by 20 space... sounds good. But, how to structure? I've got the bar itself under control, but any ideas on a light, easy to transport and set up structure will be welcomed. I've got camo nets, but we'll need more, and another parachute.
I'll post here some sources I found later, for cool camo nets, including 10 by 20 Russian nets for 29 bucks. The desert stuff is cheap right now... and appropriate.
Anyway, I'll be back later and get all those sites listed here.

Kernul-
I had a great experience last time with a tensile shade structure- it was basically a 15-20 ft pole in the center with a parachute off of it. the edges were pulled tight and tied down.
We had about 20 sq. ft of shade- very comfortable, and was still open enough to see what was going on around us.
I'll see if I can track down the owner of said structure and get specific details.
It's also worthy to note that they put it up with two people....
Over and out-

Maniac-
I've seen folks do this, and have wondered what kind of pole was used. It would work well, if we can be sure we secure it well. Last year, the wind was sorta rediculous, yet it seems, little in the way of blow downs.
Would appreciate any info on this.

How do they look with the low light provided by the LEDs? Can you get a low light picture? Also, I was thinking you should mask the flash around the mold (everything but the faces on the exposed portion) with a matte black paint so that it wasn't visible...just to take away any frame of reference which could detract from the illusion. Know what I mean?

I guess I have a little "Genius" in me. I was just thinking the same thing regarding the flat black paint. I just stepped outside to check- two bright white LED's are perfect even on a moolit night. Not obtrusive, but creepy. I want people to notice them not because they are bright, but because the face is following their movement.
The solar panel goes on top. The circuit on this one does not include a photo electric cell to turn off the light in the day, but it seems to hold a charge just fine. I can't believe how easy this project is coming together. I don't have a good low-light set up on my camera, but take my word for it, we will have luminous forboding for the DMZ at Apokiliptika!

Drat. Was hoping to get a sneak peek. Just from the photo of them sitting in the daylight I can see it's gonna be really creepy. Can't wait to see those babies in action. Find out how late the charge will last..some of those solar torches don't last more than about 6 hours into the night.

I've been watching E-bay, please let me know if you see any good solar lights for cheap. We'll need at least 6.

Kantina Koncept
Can you do a short mpeg of the look? It sounds "Neet-o"
Say, Jelly- look for a pic I just sent to you, Bad Dawg and Heli, of a suggestion for the Kantina main core structure. I think this may just be the thing. With proper applications of camo nets over and to the sides, we have a large shade area. And, the design best allows the "pole" to be employed.
You might post it here for the others to view?

Re: Kantina Koncept
I tried it but it was too wobbly to get the effect. An example of the way it looks on the inside is best viewed here (Thanks Ranger Genius): http://www.michaelbach.de/ot/fcs_hollow-face/index.htmlKernul Killbuck wrote:Can you do a short mpeg of the look? It sounds "Neet-o"

Nice idea, B-Dog, on this kantina cover. What kind of steel fittings will you use?

Kernul, due to the mutant vehicle staging, the miniman, slab, and my camp trailer, I have done up a diagram for you to take into consideration when submitting your official theme camp layout to bmorg. I'll scan it to an e-mail soon and appreciate your guidance.

Ok, there's much to catch up on.
Heli- yes, checked the messages and 10-4
Jelly- cool job getting the pics here so fast. I was just on the screen with B Dawg-- we'll use 3/4 conduit, he has the tools.
And, I'm anxious to see the suggested layout. I've been considering your RV trailer, the flatbed etc. the MV in the layout. Let's merge our ideas.
Also considering the placement of the guard shack and the tower.
I have the machine gun built, the AA missile battery well on the way, and several other cool additions. I still need to get the camo net sites here, as we could use a bunch.
Gads, so many projects, so litle time.

I was over at Mr. Fixit's house last night, administrator of the Hot Wheels camp. If anybody has a lead on electric wheel chair parts please contact him as his cause is a noble one.
My bad, I was making fun of your choice of 3/4" pipe but I thought you were talking about PVC, it's electrical conduit, yes? Forgive me, I'm swimming in white plastic shavings.
