I heard back from the guy.

He really doesn't know anything about this area at all.

Referred him to rangemaster.

We'll see if our training ideas mesh, and check out his insanity level.

I've been invited to train with groups in the past that were way over the top, or just too rural or hunting oriented for my taste.

I won't have time to do anything soon, but when I'm finished with the move, we'll see.

I'm in Memphis, so arkansas and mississippi are easy options.
Anywhere else would be an expedition.

Where we have been practicing, a hundred feet from a friend's porch, the free fire zone is only one direction.
Backstops for rifles in all directions will be even more difficult as the area builds up.

I understand some of the high end training facilities are available, but out of my price range.
Seal team six and others do train in this area.

Tried out the AR-15 iron this afternoon...

Image

Finally! Something to do with all these blank rounds. My supply sargent gave me 2,500 rounds in 1992.
This thing was launching them 200-250 meters! What surprised me was how accurate it is. I was nailing trees at 50-75m, nice hollow thunk sound. I ended up giving a reprieve to the billiard golf balls. Gonna make some gifties & geegaws outta them instead.
The ball launcher muzzle attachment was around $20 from Amazon. Looks like a shorty suppressor, no?
Rifle & grenade launcher sold separately.

For those who are interested, The base rifle is a pre-ban, pre-Remington Bushmaster XM-15F2S heavy barrel (they are NOT shitting about the heavy part!) circa 1993. $390. I was a gunsmith and dealer at the time. Good deals...
The grenade launcher is a DPW 37mm smoothbore. It was around $115 in 1998.
37mm rounds range in price from $10 to $50 each depending what flavor they are. No explosive or anti-personnel rounds, just flare, smoke, ag rounds (bird bangers), whistlers, tear gas(?!?), and pyrotechnic. WTF would civilians possibly ever need gas rounds for? (Wackassed militia nutso's!)
A 40mm rifled launcher is $2-3,000 + ATF Form 4 + fingerprints + photo + $200 tax stamp.
Rounds for the 40 range from $20/ea for practice chalk dust marking rounds up th $7-800/ea for HE / HEDP rounds.
I'm saving money each time I fire the 37mm. Hell, can't afford not to shoot it :).

I'm getting two more for the other AR's and bringing them to Juplaya next year. Get a threesome together and hit the links in the 1st Annual Guns In The Sun Invitational or maybe The Black Rock Open...
Firing balls up here is a one shot deal. They're lost in the forest forever.
On the playa they should be quite easy to find.
Yay guns!

Oh man, I wish I had a way to bring and temporarily store a bunch of our guns off playa. I'd really like to give you the full on Second Amendment experience you long for. Maybe I'll look into bringing some and going into Reno to secure them with a firearms dealer. Depending on what your schedule is, perhaps you could hop in my truck and we'll book on down to Reno or Vegas and hit an indoor gun range. Not sure what my time constraints will be, but if it's possible It would be my pleasure to finance said walk in a weapons wonderland.
Wouldn't that be the coolest endcap to the burn?

People used to shoot bowling balls out there w/ black powder. Saw a cannon in a local gun shop fabbed from a Caterpillar hydraulic cylinder.

Nothing Feels Better Than...

Post by gyre » Tue Jul 05, 2011 11:10 am

Rifles red from firing over.

The backwash from your partner's suppressor in your face.

The reverberation of rifle fire off the storefronts.

Being unable to keep count of rapid fire rounds.

The burn still left on your hand through the guard.

Putting children's toys away and bringing out the big gun.

We noticed no one even bothers firing a pistol in that neighborhood anymore, on new year's and fourth of july.
They started getting real fireworks... or a rifle.
Pretty good displays now.

My oversight has been corrected.
Espressodude & Helga came over the river and through the woods to play today.
Best. Playmates. Ever.

Image
Espressodude. He puts the ROCK in rock pit. Any questions?

Image
FOGLAMP. The back wall is 210 yards from the end of the muzzle. Potato quality control problems today. Only one survived intact to make it entirely downrange. Helga fired that one  . Sometimes gentlemen, it takes a woman's touch. DO NOT underestimate Helga. You do so at your own risk...

Image
^Easily amused.

Espressodude picked today to come out. Good choice. The pit is going into production tomorrow and the heavy equipment operators get surly when people shoot at em. Can't say I blame em. They may not be very fast but they will destroy your vehicle in one shot. Nuff said? :D

I spent the rest of the afternoon running 900 pounds of dirt through the sluicebox in the creek below the house. Total gold? None. But... I found 15mg (0.015grams) platinum in a single teensy nugget:
Image
That's a cool $0.84 right there.
2,133 more days like this and I'll have an ounce.
I earn my money.
Suck it.

Does anyone know anything about the various trigger activators available?

I've learned how to make one run reliably, but I want to find the best one available.

Anyone have a spare they would sell?

BBSue, we can likely arrange a tour of a shootin place when you are in the area. The bigger quarry is being opened for excavation (we were lucky and went there on the 5th for banging, it was closed on the 6th because of excavation for 8 -10 weeks) but I am sure Foxfur knows of other(besides the one in his back yard) note to self: time to reload some of them 30-06 linked rounds
