Re: One Item for BM a Day
I did a test-assemble on the camper shade, made from four upright 1 3'8" fence poles clamped to my camper jacks with a 20-foot-long 1 3/8" fence pole rail at the top on each side... decided I DO need crossmembers. That's why you pre-test stuff.
Time to weld up more brackets!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Well at least you also told me to use the fence poles! I like them, that was a good idea. I didn't find "T" brackets I liked (they are about to become sorta 3-dimensional "T"s when I modify them to also hold crossmembers) I liked or thought were strong enough so I welded up my own from the next size up fence pole. I have some unused side panels from an old Costco 10x20 carport, 20' long and about 5 or 6 feet wide. I'm thinking of attaching them together in the middle and using them as my shade material... because it's what I have... which makes it the ultimate, ideal, best material in the whole wide world to use.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I might never have thought of fence tubing for this purpose -- in spite of having 300 feet of it permanently installed in my yard! I was asking around for abandoned Costco type frames, when a friend wondered if I wanted some similar tubing. Turned out it was brand new fence tubing, left over from the days when he ran a Sears-Roebuck store! Yeah, stuff we already have, or otherwise free, is a good way to go.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Today, primer and cool paint for the total make-over the First Mate is giving my camper interior... two tones of silvery metallic aqua colors ("ice floe" and "tide pool"), a little silver, some white... sorta tropical oceany Florida-ish... and that's just the beginning.
I should take "before" photos tomorrow morning - but it's just like any other camper, all dark wood everywhere.
I'm gonna keep the exterior stock and low-key, the less attention you attract on the highway the better, but I told her she could do anything with the inside she wants.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Great shopping day, today:
everything (except the fan) for a figjam bucket cooler
most all dry food on 'the list'
all the malwart shopping done
all the harbor freight shopping done
all the army surplus store shopping done
all the booze bought
all the stuff that was bought today de-packaged
Tomorrow will be the final set-up and inspection of the MV, and then the tear down to start packing it up, as well as tearing down the mini man.

Forgive me for being too forward but the thought of a beautiful woman with a wrecking bar is just...ummm......er....... too exciting to me.Savannah wrote: A 30" Fulton wrecking bar helps get 'em back out.
My military tent stakes came yesterday, ordering them is about the only thing I did playa-related all week. I'm off today and vow to finally open my storage boxes, take inventory and get a serious list together....... failing that, at least open the package with the tent stakes.
Oh.... I did add soup to my shopping list... thanks guys.

Yesterday helped the neighbors build their bar and then break in their bar.
Today I'm going to hopefully figure out what I am doing wrong with a battery-mornitoring voltage divider and then solder up a circuit board.

FIGJAM = The two chain links to connect to a 12" spike is genius. I have been trying to bend rebar using a torch all week and all I get are brittle pieces breaking off when I go to bend them. I already had the spikes and found a length of chain that was cut into 26 of the 2 link connectors.
Posts like that make up for all the drivel and snark on ePlaya - but I tend to enjoy that in a perverse kind of way too.
Today I cleaned out the garage refrigerator and plugged it in - getting it ready for making ice blocks and a place to put frozen pans of food.
Started on making the tipi floor from 15 yards of canvas.

The next morning you will wake up pretty much your old self except that a very unusual 16 hours will have been added to your store of life experience.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I'm playing catch-up:
Cleaned the garage made room for a staging area for all the little piles I've been squirreling stuff to.
Emptied two large totes:
Confirmed stove is in working order
Confirmed cheap boom box that I use as iPod amp is working
Tested Camelbak knockoff
Sorted through stuff in Camelbak knockoff
Washed Respro mask
Sorted through ratchet straps bungee balls, bungee cords, stakes etc.
Tossed shit I didn't use last time, a tub of Vitalyte, pain reliever, mercurochrome and assorted ingestibles that are over two years old
Surprisingly I've added very little to my shopping list, I'm actually more prepared than I thought.
Oh, I started thinking about my black jeans/black shirts/black boot ensemble and the thought occurred to me I might get a little warm in the sun so I supplemented my wardrobe with a pair of scissors:

Tomorrow I'll test the solar lighting and give the tarps the once over.

Picked up a set of bed risers to use to lift cooler off ground. They stack all together so they don't take up a whole lotta space like a pallet.
3- 6 packs of Horizon milk
YooHoo
chow mein meal in a can
pouches of tuna salad
pancake syrup
coffee
sugar
Clear bin to keep food in
Dropped it all off at my sister's house
Now I'm going to go set out bins and sort stuff in my basement

genius... I've been toting bricks, and have some bed risers in the "go to goodwill" box. switch? no, I don't think I should give goodwill bricks with so many miles left on them.Martiansky wrote:Picked up a set of bed risers to use to lift cooler off ground. Some people use those luggage holders--like in hotel rooms.
I couldn't find one at a thrift store, so I bought a new, cutting down our forests, wooden one.

I have to have my gear packed in 6 hours, so . . . I'm standing in an aisle at Home Depot building a Frankensteinian PVC shower cage with which to Hide My Shame.
They do not have triple/corner connectors, so I'm using crosses n' elbows whatever is here. HEE.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

....and..... I got a pretty good idea for something to wear that's actually theme appropriate and actually kills 2 birds with one stone. So I started working on that today.
Kinda scary to have to put a year's worth of prep into 30 days. Especially 30 days that are mostly already booked doing other "important" stuff. Still. Now it's real, and I might not even be quite the empty-handed street-dresser I'd feared I might be.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Today was a great day!
Got the solar power and battery combo all working. My boyfriend is having just way to much fun, he has the whole thing on switch boardsO.o. So swamp cooler is a go, bought all items and ordered the swamp cooler pads. Had a very hard time tracking them down. Also got some more food and water out of the way, first aid kit, baby whips, and ear plugs:)
Dare I say besides the shade structure nonsense we are good to go at this point
that can't be true lol
It's getting real now:)

Still sorting and cleaning. Working out some accumulation/clutter issues while getting ready. Found my pink dinosaur hat! yay! Got some Trader Joe dried seaweed salad... hoping it makes a late week appearance and fools a salad craving. It's got a high weirdness factor in any case, and that makes it a treat. Got some thin Styrofoam panels to beef up a dry ice cooler. Haven't found the bare slow color changing led's to upgrade boring white keychain swag lights. Ordered some more.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I've actually made some strides towards getting together a complete packing list from a variety of sources (mainly prior years lists and one or two items from Asana). Right now it's one long running list but I'll divvy it up into Travel, Shelter, Food, Clothes etc and than a column for have / buy and source (TJs' Savemart, etc)
I'm sure I'll be thinking of things right up until 447 and then I'll throw in the towel and go into "Damn the torpedoes - moderate speed ahead" mode. There comes a point where you have to tell yourself if you haven't thought of it yet you really don't need it.
