Not to be confused with dolphin-free snarking.

Time is the 4th dimension, wouldn't a clock help conceptualize that better?Isotopia wrote:The gif is a tesseract.Someday I simply must know the name of that blue thing
Also known as a 16-cell dual polytope. Its used by theorists to help conceptualize a 4th dimension.
(I'm easily confused.)

I'm neglected too. Wiki had a nice teaser about The wrinkle in time. I'll have to give it a read sometime....maybe we can all do some "tessering".JStep wrote:Nope, no one's ever mentioned it.kitoconnell wrote:JStep, don't tell me you've never read "A Wrinkle In Time?" You poor neglected bastard.
The first planet sounded good to me!

Burnier-than-thou; not sure that'll be fun, blech, leaves a bad taste in my brain.
I'll sit this one out and probably just watch. Those types are best not provoked and should be avoided, imho. (Sorry Kit, I can't be much help

I know the title, probably read reference to it but I've never read it. No one's ever mentioned it to me as something I should read though.

Wasn't that available in a Scolastic Press edition?
Meaning: Didn't all children in the 70s of a certain (nerdy, perhaps) type read that?

Church Night
This totally made me laugh in light of the recent entry. Thanks, Simon.Simon of the Playa wrote:dont feel bad, he's just being more literary-than-thou...
A Wrinkle In Time was pretty influential to me, so even though it's a kids book it remains near and dear to my heart. I think it was the first book to get me thinking in a psychedelic way about space and time, and it's a strong argument against conformity in community which I think would appeal to my fellow Burners.
As an aside to moonrise: Chill out, it's just a word.
Today's Lexicon Entry is Church Night:

Sorry guys. I have been pursuing another story about the local Burn and some other writing and so the Lexicon has been on temporary hiatus. Working on a longer series of connected words as well. Look for more entries soon.
On a related note, I'd like opinionated Burner philosophies to send me their thoughts on any of the 10 Burner principles for possible quotation in a future lexicon entry.

Effigy
As promised, A Burner Lexicon returns. Today we examine 'effigy' and )'(:
http://kitoconnell.com/lexicon-effigy/
To clarify my previous request, I am hoping to do a series of entries on each of the 10 Burner Principles. If you have strong opinions on this core facet of Burner philosophy I would like to hear from you. If you're interested, please contact me here via private message or via one of the other methods linked below and we can chat more about the project.
Also, as an aside, the Burner Lexicon main page (kitoconnell.com/lexicon/) recently surpassed 1,000 total views since the project began in late September. Shirt-cocking (http://kitoconnell.com/lexicon-shirtcocking/) remains the most viewed individual entry.

One of our theme camp's leaders, also a long time burner, was a shirt-cocker...this never bothered me.
I did wonder if he went shirt-cocking out of the camp perimeters...I don't think he did...none of my biz...I never saw him do it, I think he usually wore something.
I heard about the guys with a gun that shoots underwear at
shirt-cockers...huh, do they truly exist?

There was a functioning pants flinging device (pantszooka) at least one year at Burning Flipside -- the same year there was a shirtcocking parade.
A volunteer who made my camp possible at the last Flipside -- brought most of the water for our version of Human Carcass Wash -- spent most of the time shirt-cocking, sometimes on bicycle, sometimes with a little string wrapped around it...

Camp Smack That Ass!
No lexicon entry today -- instead I posted a profile of one of my favorite theme camps. Read the Camp Smack That Ass! story:

p.s. Contact me privately if you have an idea for a theme camp story like this one. :)

"The Burning Man effigy is the trademarked logo of the BMORG and is integrated into many logos for theme camps or regional burns. Its shape also gives rise to the use of the symbol or emoticon )'( in text-based mediums. It is sometimes followed by an exclamation point for emphasis, )'(! or preceded by a # on Twitter, #)'( though it is not a proper hashtag. This symbol is used to playfully signal or celebrate one’s association with Burner culture."
I'm afraid it's been done before.
