Sunbeam, we'll have to agree to disagree. I know of a number of solid Republicans who haunt this forum, many if not all you respect, and none of them embody the steriotypes you believe to be the modern GOP. I don't think that Burning Man will be the least bit effected by what is happening in Washington, for if it were, then they would have tried to close down TTITD back in 2002. But of course that didn't happen. And you know why? Because Republicans are not at all what you think they are. Now are there any like that? I'm sure, just as there are racists, up-tight Christians/Jews/Catholics, and a slew of other haters in the Democratic Party. (Hello Al Sharpton.) The GOP has no interest whatsoever I'm sure in closing down Burning Man. Let's face reality: Northern Nevada is very politically and culturally conservative/libertarian. If they haven't managed to shut us down by now, what makes you think some junior senator from Arkansas has any interest in doing the same?Sunbeam56 wrote:This is for Doc - sorry about the tardiness of a reply, i am not as often on eplaya as some times earlier.
You asked - what's the problem?
I took that as you having not seen that i wasvecaggerating. But let me answer in a more relevant way.
BLM is a government entity. Repubs are now going to run the gov't. Repubs are beholden to Far-right, extremist Christians, andba slew of other haters, who will need a symbolic sacrifice.
Do you think TTITD, with its sexuality, nudity, grug allegations, libertatian tolerance for all perversions would survive if some radical, funded, Repub group demanded that it be shut down on "moral" grounds?
.
I have not devoted as much of my life to TTITD as you have. But i will be saddened if that scenario comes to being. At leadt one federal Judge in Nevada would be glad to see it happen...

Re: PANIC!! Button of DOOOOOM!
i'll just put this right here...
"The 2008 Mogul earthquake swarm shook our area for months. Notable quakes ranged from a 3.6 to a 4.7. Right now a similar swarm is happening to our north and it is more severe than the Mogul swarm. In Mogul, significant quakes were spaced out over a period of weeks. Quakes of the same magnitude have happened in this swarm but they have happened over the period of a day instead of a week. Denio, Nevada is the closest town to the swarm. Denio is on the Nevada-Oregon border in Humboldt County. Since the swarm started 3 months ago, 550 quakes larger than a magnitude 2, 40 larger than a 3, and at least 5 larger than a magnitude 4 have struck. "We were kinda expecting a magnitude 5 to come out of this sooner or later because it was so similar to Mogul and the Hawthorne swarms and low and behold it just happened to be in the middle of the night," said Graham Kent with the Nevada Seismology Lab. The biggest quake so far, a magnitude 4.7, struck at 12:34 Thursday morning. That is the same size as the biggest Mogul quake, but it likely won't be the biggest quake in this swarm. Seismologist worry the coming quakes are growing bigger. "If whether we all just jump a couple rungs and get into the 6 level and communities around Lakeview, Denio and over by Surprise Valley in California start to be affected in terms of being able to cause damage," said Kent. We might feel some shaking but the swarm likely won't affect us in Reno. It's important to watch because it can teach us about future swarms. "What we can learn from this swarm up by Denio will also help us again have a better sense of what is the scope of possibilities," said Kent. Earthquake swarms are something that are unique to our area. Where California may experience a major earthquake followed by several aftershocks, Nevada often has foreshocks that build in intensity toward a larger magnitude earthquake."

You know damn well "g*d" does, if you go that route, because he put your pleasure center right next to your waste duct.Simon of the Playa wrote:"i don't wan't to start any blasphemous rumor, but i think that g*d has a sick sense of humor"
"proof" of creationism? I don't think so. I kinda favor the natural selection route, via phylectic gradualism with equilibria of punctuation. We actually were considering submitting something to a major journal at one time about how the sedimentary record is reflective of a parallel development, with long slow periods of minor deposition and then sudden bursts of storm deposition. We called the phenomenon 'punctuated sedimentation'. And then I had to go paint commas, ampersands, semicolons, and exclamation points on the outcrop.

Rhino my friend, YOU might be plumbed that way, but I can safely say my pleasure center is equidistantly located at a point that is located on the intersection of two lines: the first is drawn ear ro ear. The second is drawn from the apex of the head to the tonsils.^Rhino! wrote: You know damn well "g*d" does, if you go that route, because he put your pleasure center right next to your waste duct.
For the record I will take a flat-chested, 4-eyed, pocket-protector-wearing little Nerdette that can work a spherical trig problem over the Swedish Bikini Team any day. (Of course, the Swedish Bikini Team is encouraged to prove me wrong! Hehehe!)

My friend, there are simply times when it's difficult to remain plumb.
Or simply level-headed.
Like now, when I'm being redundant to get a point across.

People die every day. There's no reason to get all upset and start stirring up shit that's not even there. Unless one feeds on drama.

Agreed, Tin Halo. I've declared my home to be a drama-free zone. It tends to give me indigestion rather quickly. Comedy is good, but the British variety is a little dry at times. Nonetheless, the British comedy goes well with a nice Chablis.....
