Ouch, Captain, I'm sorry to hear it. Those are some big-ass bills, and good on you for planning and prioritizing as you need to. I'm still going to hold out some hope that it'll find a way to work out for you and the first mate. If not, you'll surely be missed. And we'll want some pics of you sailing the land yacht around the neighborhood sometime this summer.

FYI on an ulu:

Great word for last small words in Scrabble.

defined: An ulu is an all-purpose knife traditionally used by Eskimo women, both Yupik and Inuit. It is utilized in applications as diverse as skinning and cleaning animals, cutting a child's hair, cutting food and, if necessary, trimming blocks of snow and ice used to build an igloo.

The food cutting part is where it really shines. I use an ulu for dicing onions and garlic. I suppose it could be used for filleting fish (or, if you're a Yupik or Inuit, cutting strips of moose, seal, or polar bear for stir-fry - heh, heh)

Pics available on the wikipedia article at:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulu

Regarding hippies:

They're usually OK. It's just that the Rainbow family actually trashed an entire National Forest in New Mexico during their gathering a few years back. The ones that practice LNT are good people, and a lot of them end up at TTITD.

Cap's post should be over in the screwed thread.. I would surely miss pointing and laughing at him on the playa.. But hope springs eternal.. Side's that harem couch fits right into this years theme.. If it were not for his First Mate I would make a suggestion.. He could get a ticket, hitch to BM (w/pack camp), Elliot loan him a bike (without seat) and we can all point and laugh at him.. See you in the dust goddammitt...

@Elliot - I usually hear your mentions about rig/semi driving and you crossed my mind when I realized my uncle (who drives a motorcoach) has over 3 million accident free miles under his belt. Random, I know, but pretty cool!

I quit counting after the first million, which probably took seven or eight years.
One time... (Warning: Anecdote coming up.) I was on the narrow winding State Route 20 between Willits and Fort Bragg (Northern California), when a logging truck with very long logs came the other way -- in a left turn (for me). The rear tip of a log left a little chunk of bark on the edge of my left-side rear view mirror. That's the closest to collision I had in 27 years.
The worst scares were a few cases of traffic coming toward me in my own lane. That happened twice in/near Atlanta, GA.
I'm sort'a happily retired from that s-h-i-t now.

One of my burner friends (non-eplayan) is up visiting this weekend from Portland.
We looked at photos and slide shows from this year... made us want to go...
But the news is getting worse and worse up here. I won't bore you with details but it's pretty fucked lately.
We might make it but it's just plain raining bricks.

Nah there's other shit going financially wrong too... I can't believe how I'm getting clobbered from all directions.
I'll get past it all, but it's just an extremely bad time to drop lots of cash on a party.

Good morning Ygmir!
Yeah I wish you lived closer... Or more that I lived closer.
I could rent an excavator and do the septic system myself but my problem is time. I don't have enough and I need it fixed ASAP. And nobody heard me say this, but I want it redone just like it was for the last 40 years and covered back up in a big hurry before the county comes poking around and tells me I have to obtain permits and plans and install a new system four times the size in a completely different location for well into five-figure money.
So I got a friend of a friend in the biz coming to handle it fast. He's not a close enough friend to cut me a great buddy deal but close enough to not totally swindle me.

yeah Cap'n. amazing the county can make you get a permit, to do what lasted 40 years, over again.
I used to specialize in "bootlegging" systems, fast, no permit, and so far, never a report of failure (first ones 30 years ago).
My problem was thinking I was being fair on the price, and having them kiss me because it was so cheap!! dang! haha

Yeah, highway 20 in Northern California can be a scary road to drive at times, from I 80 all the way to Fort Bragg. Once I was driving at night between Fort Bragg and Willits, and almost every curve on the Willits side had deer on the rode, took forever to get to Ukiah that night. Also hated when there were lots of logging trucks on the road.

RAIN! RAIN! RAIN! Yes it is really raining here this morning. Hope it lasts, although we are so far behind, it is truly a "drop in the bucket"

ASD, sounds like you had some excitement.

Diving into the NEB hoping MDF is still slumbering there. Mmmmm good, snoozing on a lazy rainy morning with friends.

OT and sloth here. During the weekend in Reno, I did get a little bit of inspiration, and motivation though. I got an email from the community gardens, three years on the waiting list, and I'm still on the waiting list. great news. Was wondering if there was even still a list. That would be a nice bit of activity. Found my camping in Northern California book, and working on that angle now. Looking at used minivans on the internet too.
