Coda: Remember the cameo role of my water bottle? (Steel and bent almost in half?) My genius housemate got it unbended. Filled it with water, and put it in the freezer. Since I keep it in a sling, it's okay that the bottom is rounded.

Oh that is genius! I am so happy it got fixed, I felt awful that after you had helped me out so much you got repaid with a busted water bottle...theCryptofishist wrote:Coda: Remember the cameo role of my water bottle? It occurs to me with the number of great stories on here someone could make a collection of them - i realise this is a do-ocracy but it is WAY beyond my skills, soemtimes it takes me half an hour to find the thing i just downloaded.

You don't know how grateful I am to you. The whole puff of black smoke thing. The whole, having someone to help me from getting wedged in when stuff falls to the floor thing. Water bottles cost less than twenty bucks. What you gave me was worth far more than that.

Glad you made it home and then home home in one piece jax! Your story helps the local-ish burners understand the challenges of long distance burners' trials and tribulations.
Good luck with the surgery! I've had a back surgery myself, just a thought...follow your doctors' advice, he may suggest you limit key board usage during your recovery time. Again, good luck and speedy, healthy recovery to you! From my home home ((()))s go out to you

I'm the MAN in a truck, burner who is stuck, you're in luck! I'll whip out my BIG tow chain and not charge you, not even one lousy buck!

Re: My Epic Journey Home
For those that have expressed interest...I have had my pre-op tests and received medical clearance. I have surgery to fuse three of my cervical vertebrae on 10/17/11, next Monday at 730am at Reston Hospital. I will hopefully be home by the next day and recovered fully in two weeks. I'll keep you all posted. Thank you so much for all the well wishes!

How about a get well stripper?Jax Dee wrote:theCryptofishist wrote:Do you want cards and flowers?
Not especiallyI feel like that is a waste of trees and flowers. The well wishes I have received here and on facebook mean much more. Though if someone wants to do something more I will certainly be grateful and gracious.

My insurance denied my surgery. I get to call them at 6am and find out what their reasoning is beyond "we don't want to pay for it".

Re: My Epic Journey Home
There are logical ways to dispute a ruling like that. There are insurance commissions and arbitration that will allow you to appeal. Also, you can start by speaking to your doctor and they can fight this for you as well. You might also consult a lawyer to see what other suggestions that they have.
I think that insurance companies start by saying "no" in hopes that you will go away. Fight those bastards!

Re: My Epic Journey Home
I loved your story. Now give those insurance companies hell so it can eventually reach a super happy ending.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Story was great! I had debated on writing the journey of my sweetheart and I from VA. We also drove. Whew. However your drive beats the hell out of ours as far as excitement.
I send you lots of gentle hugs (dont want to squeeze to hard b4 you have surgery)
And wtf is this about ins. Not paying? WhyTF even have ins. if they don't pay for medical assistance.... sounds like they need to have a foot inserted into their rear end, twisted and broke off and then told oh I'm sorry we can't help pay to have that removed. See how they feel.

Smile, who cares if you don't have all your teeth.
Re: My Epic Journey Home
I am confident we will get the surgery approved in the appeals process. They just need more info I think. Also they need someone who is not a monkey to review my file. They made quite a few mistakes. Surgery has currently been postponed until 10/31/11.

Oh you guys make me laugh and are so good at cheering me up! I am feeling positive about the appeal. I don't NEED visitors but they are always nice. I may be doped up and asleep most the time though
Thank you for the well wishes and threats.
Re: My Epic Journey Home
Jax maybe this will help.
3 seperate times companys have tried to deny my legitimate insurance claims.
I called the company and ask for a supervisor (the first person that answers can only say no to your claim).
Tell the superviser that your next call will be to your states insurance commision to file a complaint if they don't pay this claim toot sweet.
This has worked every time as too many complaints with the commision can cancel the companys right to sell insurance in your state.
Hope this helps.
