I guess you probably know the trick is to operate all the functions with the pump off and relieve the pressure in the lines before trying to connect or disconnect... they're a necessary evil but I hate those quick disconnect hydraulic lines, particularly when mounted in some recessed, hard to reach area.
Don't you hate equipment not set up by the people who actually use it?!

WORDS OF WISDOM !
Captain, it took a full day in subzero temperatures and two field mechanics to figure that out and shut our job down for a day. It takes a double-jointed contortionist to reach the quick-disconnects, too! And, at the end of the day, it still takes THREE soapy showers to get rid of the smell of cold hydraulic fluid.

I know. At the time it was designed, he worked in the Equipment and Procurement Division. He's a friend of mine. I work in Construction and Materials.Thecatman wrote: It was an engineer from the Missouri DOT who designed the tow plow.
Part of that has to do with the fact we need them there as the trucks we have are now standardized across the state. I appreciate the positive feedback, catman!Thecatman wrote:I work for the Nevada DOT in Reno. We have two. Ours have a 5yd sander along with a brine tank. I like MO DOTs position of the hydraulic hoses connections. On the right rear of the truck. Ours are located in the back between the bed and the pintle hook and trailer draw bar, making hard to connect/disconnect the "quick connects" There's, I think about eight hoses. One to lower the blade, one to raise it, one to turn the trailer, one to return it, one for the sander, one for the brine system, a return line, maybe seven. Air hoses for the brakes, two plugs, all crammed in a three square foot area. Plus two heavy duty safety chains. And if the hydraulic hoses are pressurized?

*shuffles in, makes CC*
Those are cool things for sure!! just goes to show, there are still plenty of fairly simple, yet great, things to be invented!
Those trucks must have some serious power though! Does pulling the trailer at an angle, scew the rear and make the driver correct, like a "power slide"? Seems it would.
I'm thinking of making a "Bobcat" style mount, to go on the end of my extendahoe (Case 580), so I can reach up a bank with the trencher or auger on the end and work across steep ground.

Morning everybody! It's raining here.
I've read the operators manual, more than once. I've driven the truck pulling the tow plow but haven't operated it. Haven't had the formal training yet. Myself and three other on the crew I work on are scheduled for a class.
Will do! I'd like to get back there in the next year or two. His folks live outside of Kirksville. I'd like to see them one more time. They're in their late 70s maybe early 80s now.^Rhino! wrote: Drop me a line next time you're in this neck of the woods.

*shakes off rain like a dog, stomps mud off boots*
Went to the recycling yard for road base to fix potholes, but they are no longer open Sundays. So stopped into the flea market since it is next door. One booth had several Persian style rugs on the floor, so I inquired. She showed me something more like a fleece blanket, although labeled carpet. I told her that would not do, since it is for outdoors -- for camping. She asked how soon I am leaving? August.
I guess you had to be there.
But I have a dozen rugs already, and seven months to go. Let the Dust come.

Morning, kiddies. Happily, it is still raining quite heavily. Perfect time to be snuggling in the NEB with MDF. A rainy Sunday afternoon.
Elliot's Persian aircraft carrier might replace the Captain's boat this year. Hope you're feeling better, YG! Hell of a contraption, Elorrum!

Persian aircraft carrier coming right up.

fabulous art by Stan Mott
I had several rugs nailed down last year, and they do a great job. Those Persian nomads knew how to camp in the desert. I figure I'll cover the whole camp "courtyard" this year.
You can actually get brand new oriental style rugs, almost 8' x 11', delivered to your door for $89.99, on eBay. I have bought one so far -- seems good for the purpose. Made in Turkey, actually, but made by a machine. And made of polypropylene, so no good for sitting on or other skin contact. Just foot traffic dust control. Of course, I prefer paying $5 for well-used rugs at garage sales.

Oh, and I have indeed thought of making a magic carpet MV. But it would be hard to beat the one that already shows up every year. (Of course, it is not a contest. I'd be happy with a lesser one.)

I should post a picture sometime. We have cherrywood cabinets in the kitchen and her hair blends perfectly into them, so she often appears headless in the kitchen.

So, she has some sort of large "industrial" rugs coming in, in two or three weeks, very cheap. I'll go back then.
Passing up a free rug in Santa Rosa today -- too much gasoline, and no guarantee it won't be gone when I get there. Can't win'em all.

Yep, know what ya mean… I've passed up several free or great deals because when I factored in the fuel to get them, it was either not worth it at all or cheaper to pay more locally.Elliot wrote: Passing up a free rug in Santa Rosa today -- too much gasoline, and no guarantee it won't be gone when I get there. Yo, unjon. Believe it or not, the African Queen STILL existed long after the movie. The one Bogie did the film on. It was right out in front of the Holiday Inn Express in Key Largo, Florida. Last time I was down there was in '87, they might have moved it since then.

Kudos on the plans for rugs and covering your courtyard, Elliot. We put shade cloth above our courtyard last year and loved it! We had a few rugs and pieces of carpet (in strategic spots), it really does help keep the dust in camp down.
I've been up to my eyeballs in 3D modeling stuff for much of the weekend, making new 'parts' and creating new textures to use for the models of this year's camp.

Today will probably be pretty busy, but I hope to get the chance to spend more time working on the design.
