Rest In Peace
Re: Rest In Peace
You are in my thoughts KV. My late Mom's birthday was yesterday. So grateful for my memories of her.

Cheb i Sabbah 1947-2013
"Dear friends, family, fans and fellow beat followers, it is with a heavy heart that we, Cheb i Sabbah's family announce his peaceful passing yesterday morning in his home in San Francisco. He was surrounded by his life partner of over 18 years and is memorialized by his two children and three grand children. We ask that we be allowed the time to grieve and mourn our loss and will be announcing any memorial services in the near future..... When dusk falls this evening, and the stars begin to swirl, our father is spinning for all the great ones who passed before him and were awaiting his arrival,

Nelson Mandela. He changed the world. (with help, admittedly, but he was a fulcrum.)

Indeed. As Bishop Tutu said, "We have lost our dada...our father." Mandela did what was right, and engaged in nonviolent resistance.theCryptofishist wrote:Nelson Mandela. He changed the world. (with help, admittedly, but he was a fulcrum.)

I am impressed with those who can move from violent to non-violent. It takes a huge willingness to admit your previous faults and to grow beyond them. And anyone who can maintain sanity after 27 years in prison...VultureChow wrote:Well technically, first it was non-violent, then violent, then non-violent again.^Rhino! wrote:Indeed. I should read up on him, I really only know the sketch of an outline of his life.

Re: Rest In Peace
When I first started caregiving, my first client was a 90 year old woman, her name was Mae...my Mae girl, and her 94 year old husband Herbert (Herb). Mae had dementia, and was the sweetest lady anyone could wish for as a client. I loved going over there when I had a shift. When she passed away I was devastated. At the funeral, Herb looked lovingly at his wife of 73 years and gently said, "She's beautiful even in death". That was in 2004.
I've been thinking of Herb a lot this year. I was drawn to the picture of the both of them that I carry in my wallet. There was an article on the newspaper today about local centurions, and there was a picture of Herb! I was so excited and wanted to find out where he was living, only to find out he passed away on Thanksgiving at 104 years young. My heart hurts that I didn't get to see him again before he passed and I'm mourning his passing. He would've been 105 in a couple of weeks.
But I'm happy that Herb and Mae are together again and sharing the love they've always shared. His love for Mae was a stellar example of true love. I now Mae loved him just as much. They both had the love of the Lord as Herb was a Baptist minister. I'll visit their resting place and adorn it with flowers.
Rest in Peace Herb and Mae. You are loved and will be missed. A bell doesn't have to ring in order to get your wings. You both were angels here on earth.
All my love,
Mary

Beautiful comment.
I love seeing older folks being married for so long. My wife and I just had our 25th back in September and we get asked "How did you do that"?

AK-74, muzzle brake and flash suppressor on it. Mikhail was able to improve the AK-47's legendary reliability with some advantageous features. I'd call that even better. Same designer, so I'm not going to even disagree with you, Tom.

With tears in my eyes, I can't thank all of you enough. I've been down with the flu since Monday, so I wasn't at her side while she passed. *Seeing* the hugs from you really has helped a lot.
Although she was in a wheelchair, her spirit was always positive and she helped me see that trusting people won't always turn out bad.
I thought about the temple last night and know there is another journey ahead of me, but I know this year I won't be alone.
Thanks again so much,

My Mom, Patricia Chapman, died this afternoon at 4PM Eastern after a 3 years battle with dementia and just old age decline. May she be happy in her new-found freedom. The Temple will be about her this year....
