No acute infiltrates are seen. The heart is not enlarged. The aorta is tortuous. There is increased density about the right paratracheal region at the level of the aortic arch with deviation of the trachea to the left. This may represent a vascular process such as a prominent innmominate artery or possibly a double aortic arch, however adenopathy or masses not excluded. No vascular congestion is seen.

I work in the radiology department at a hospital here in SacTown. I use to hang the films for the doctors, but now everything has gone computerized and all technical. (I use to do technical support at Intel years ago, so it's helping me stay here now.) So basically now I show the doctors how to use the computers. Everything is transcribed on the same computer. I'll be right back -- gotta go chaperone an ultrasound. Joy....

What I meant to say earlier is that the doctors/radiologists dictate on a microphone now as they read the xrays, MRI's, CT's, U/S, Angios, etc., and the computer automatically transcribes the reports. On PICC lines and Head CT's and ER's, I print off the reports and call the floors or doctors and read the reports over the phone. Some of these words are so big and hard to say.

A lot of the time I'm running around like a chicken with its head cut off...especially to ER. Everybody's got an emergency around here, ya' know... I also do patient scheduling, process orders to the rad techs, copy films, loan out films, cover for the girls over in Nuclear Medicine....and play on the computer as much as I possible can inbetween.

I pretty much like my job. I get to wear scrubs -- it's like wearing my pajamas to work. The doctors can be condescending assholes at times. Not all, but some. The nice ones will explain what they're doing and what it all means. The thing I really enjoy when I have to work with the jerky ones is that they go to school for years, but are illiterate as heck when it comes to computers. Heh. Gradually I am taking classes. I am going to be an ultrasound tech someday, so I can work with fat, happy, pregnant women.

I better have an espresso now. Today is my 6th day at work. Tomorrow will be my 7th. Only 15 minutes more to go....

hmm, so medical dictation as a job is on it's way out eh?

What do you do about the errors the computer makes in transcribing?

I admit I haven't tried it in a couple years, but voice recognition has never worked for me.

No way will medical dictation as a job ever go away. The computer screws up a lot. The transcriptionists edit and spellcheck the preliminary reports before they are finalized.

From the perspective of a work-at-home transcriptionist, I'm actually rather glad to know this job is on its way to becoming obsolete. I took it on as a temporary get-me-by while my kids are young. Schedule flexibility is a god-send, but hte job bores me to tears daily. I like the big words though.

I thought I clarified this once before. Although this story is fiction you will note that said dirtbag expressed plainly that she was his "EX" and how it was the first—and last—time.

I'm all for the hair pulling and anything else that might work to encourage whichever end I happen to be on it.

Spent the weekend housesitting for friends - was nice to have their whole big place to myself. Lotsa room to just sit and think.

Back to class in the morning; I take my last two Microsoft Office Specialist certification exams this week, and then I'm done. Oh, joy - back in the job hunt just in time for Christmas. I'm so looking forward to this...not.
