I'm confused... they aren't mosquitos but instead stink bugs? And they fly? Does anyone know what exactly these are? I'd like to know research them to find out if they bite because I highly doubt your average bug repellant will work? If they just fly around then whatever, that's doable.

Sombody posted on Redditt Entomology that they are stink bugs. Others seem to say the same. Pictures I have seen they are kind of green so:

The southern green stink bug can complete its life cycle in 65 to 70 days. It is most prevalent during the periods of October through December and again in March through April. The southern green stink bug is known to have up to four generations per year in warm climates. The southern green stink bug overwinters as an adult, and hides in the bark of trees, leaf litter, or other locations to obtain protection from the weather. As spring temperatures begin to warm, the southern green stink bug moves out of the winter cover and begins feeding and oviposition.

The life cycle typically takes 30 to 45 days. The normal development from egg to adult requires about 35 days, but varies with temperature. As with other Hemipterans, the green stink bug has an incomplete metamorphosis, which means that the immature resemble the adults. Undeveloped stages go through five instars, and each time a nymph molts it looks a little more like an adult; this process takes the insect about a month.

If this is anywhere near correct, and who knows?, we will probably see them on the playa. Hope for a big dusty wind before then.

My buddy who is working gate just sent me this pic from last night. Because of the bug problem the Bats are really thick at night and they sometimes land on you. He said dont panic if they do just wear leather gloves and gently pull them off and toss them back in the air.

The subsurface ground is warmer this year due to the magma upwelling that is causing the earthquake swarms in the area. Yes, but as long as it doesn't rain and flood the subways again. Last year was hell. It was hysterical listening to all the rubes talk about how quickly the playa "dried up" if they only new that it was just draining into the subway system wreaking havoc on travel. It was infuriating!

I am sorry for pulling your chains, gentlemen. I've had bad luck with both masking tape and duct tape on playa. Maybe you have a better quality of tape, though in both cases I bought the 3M brand tape.

You and many others. Both are a crap shoot as to if the adhesive will give out in the heat. Can be a real mess to clean up.
