I feel just awful for Bob's sweet daughter, Artemis. Send her a little prayer. Bob was grumpy and a curmudgeon, but goddamn he loved his daughter. Treated her like the little princess that she is.

bob stahl
when i think to cry captain o captain, again
and against this headache
held to your own integrity of life and paid for it
with a cranky persistence
tireless and almost vital duty at times,
a personal drive to your rules and standards
as measured in your worn tape,
the angry tools at impractical theories
as the deadline came another year, again
by a word to get something done, always did it
no matter your personal cost, that ironic point
when we failed to respect our own,
or when rare moments of caring came out
just as strong as your impatience,
but always helpful
at times seemed self-sufficient to a fault,
that point beyond incredible autonomy
so i hold respect with memories -
sorry that's not much until my time is up,
you valued salt from dried sweat and dust
before our tears

Sorry for the delay, Crypto, not Artemis from this board. She is just a wee one.
And for anyone out of the loop about the memorial that was held last night, my apologies. I meant to come and post about it, but life has been a bit (a lot) crazy. It was a very fitting send off for Bob. Lots of stories and laughs, plus a few tears. Lexie set up some awesome shrines and even Bob's tent and campsite were there. Good food, good company, good send off for a man that really was loved.

Re: Rest In Peace
Here is a picture of Bob and the love of his life, his daughter Artemis, on the playa in 2010.
As far I as know the last year he was on the playa for Burning Man was 2011. He camped with d'nile that year and a couple years prior.
Love the playa home companion idea, Doc. It'll be on the top of my list to come see this year.

I usually don't read this thread, so I'm late on the news Couch Bob has passed. I never met him in person, but we corresponded by ePlaya PM. He was always helpful to me.

The Rumble in the Jungle = film When We Were Kings. The boxing match 1974 was accompanied by a music festival documented in the film Soul Power..
Foreman and Ali became friends after the fight. Ali had trouble walking to the stage at the 1996 Oscars to be part of the group receiving the Oscar for When We Were Kings, a documentary of the fight in Zaïre, due to his Parkinson's disease. George Foreman helped him up the steps to receive the Oscar.

Re: Rest In Peace
A somewhat belated rest in peace to my sweetheart's big sister, who died last month as the result of injuries she suffered in an accident as a passenger on one of those big red Harley trikes. We've spent the last few weeks helping her family with various logistical pieces of the puzzle, and then with memorials in her hometown (where the majority of her extended family lives) and in central Florida (where she'd lived for the last couple decades). It's tempting to want to be mad at so many different things, had this or that gone differently she'd be here with us today... but none of that would bring her back. A terrible and tragic accident, and proof that life is often shorter than we think. She lived her life the way she wanted, she was loved, she was happy, and we do not believe she suffered in the end.
She had never been to the playa, but from my first conversation with her ten years ago she had expressed interest in it and followed our dusty adventures closely. She would have loved it, but there were other adventurous things in her life that were always in conflict. I remember that first year, she was fascinated to hear that BRC had a working post office and even had radio stations. She also thought it was funny and odd that I took my watch off after passing through Reno, and never really tuned into the radio at camp. So, that first year Pandorra and I were together and going to the desert together, she looked up all the details and she sent us a care package. I think it was Tuesday of the event, a guy in a tutu came into camp with a box under his arm with our camp name, our playa names, and a description ("redhead and bald guy"). It was a clock radio.
Cheers to Lady Di!

That guy was a legend. I don't really even consider myself to be a bluegrass fan (I was one of the many who discovered him through the Coen Brothers film), but I loved his work.

Sufis are an ecstatic branch of Islam. They get high dancing, singing, calligraphy and listening to singing. That happiness was offensive to the Taliban (who don't like music) so they assassinated this musician in a major Pakistan city on his way to a concert. I'm a confirmed ex-Catholic, but I think Sufis are cool and I enjoy world music, including Qawwali.
