Pretty sure the tribe can close some of that road to all but residents. They’ve had the 445 closed for a couple of months now. The 447 is open and has been. People have been camping up there since early summer.

One of the citizens of Gerlach took a poll regarding if they wanted visitors to stop in town. It was about 50/50 I believe

Just got off the phone with the head Winneucca BLM guy in charge of Black Rock. There is not, nor will there be a BLM closure order for the Playa. Not enough time or interest to get one set up.......

I imagine the number of Bureau of Land Management rangers volunteering to work the Covid 2020 fest is pretty small. This may be the first time cops in Nixon don't ticket speeders.

No plug & plays, no rules and regulations, no spectators, no easy way to get there and take care of yourself.
Just like the old days. Hell, that would renew my interest in it!

Well, maybe not NO rules but way more like 1991. No Org would wipe out the spectators and make it hard to go again. I've cringed for years about the people who want it to be easy for anyone to go, wanting busses and flights and camps that supply them and all that Burning Man-ruining "progress".

If the Org goes down, and we really can show up out there, goddammit I think I'll be in.

Had tickets for this year! Went for first time in 2017 and again 18, 19. It was great and has become a part of my and my wife’s life. We were disappointed when it was canceled. Made other plans after it was cancelled so cannot make it to the Playa this year, however, will make it next year no matter if it is official or not. If fact it would be great if only the diehards showed up, no permits, dispersed camping, LNT, bring your poop bags, and pee bottles!

Side note: Thinking going down the art car rat hole and turning my 2000 GMC Safari van into an art car. Anyone in the Los Angeles area that might want to collaborate on this, send me a private message.

Hi Fam, I was going to buy a van to make into a cabin on wheel today (been shopping a while) and it just wasn't a good fit for where I'm at. I was going to use it to head out this weekend from Chicago to camp in the desert with my daughter (and possibly my co-parent). So sorry I can't make it but I'll be with you in spirit and then again we will see where spirit brings us all next year. If you can make it, and are coming through Chicago (and back) I'd love to know and hop a ride with you. Happy to share on the bus fair and such, although I don't see that happening at the moment.

If you mean a used van, DO NOT buy one and take off immediately on a trip.
Own it and drive it around a while first and find out what shape it’s really in.

I think the best thing for any new burner would be to go this year.
Real self reliance. Real participation.
Show up this year, and you’re a real burner and ready for the rest of whatever happens in upcoming years.

Come hell or high water, we are going. Scrapped our original plans for Labor Day weekend. Heading to the Playa Friday Sept 4, two or three nights on the Playa, then back home. It should be interesting to see how many people make the journey.
