Made some quick shelves for the luggage bay of my camper bus. They're just bolted onto the wire rack shelves that are on either side of the luggage bay (and which in turn are bolted into the floor and walls). I still have to remove my water jugs to get my shade canopy out, but at least all the other stuff is not on top of them any more!

Looks like a neat rig, Strata.

Thanks! I got it about 3 weeks before the 2019 Burn, and did a massive push to get it ready for the event. Now it's gone through some more construction on the interior and looks like this:

Spent some time this morning ride testing our new generic cruiser bikes on pavement, gravel, and soft dirt. We feel pretty confident they can handle the playa. Then we did our obligatory anti-darkwad bike pimping. Rather than trying EL wire again, which I've had various luck with, I got some commercial LED kits, brand wheelbrightz. They were reasonably easy to install, and now our bikes are ready for the playa!

Yesterday I went through all the leftover batteries from the 2019 event, metered them with a volt meter, and sorted them into bags according to their voltage. I also made sure that I hadn't left any batteries in anything. Found two tap lights that I forgot about and had to clean dead battery gunk out of them. Next year I hope to be on rechargeables. This year not quite working out for that.

I topped off my absinthe and rum flasks last night in my drinks kit, added more sugar cubes to the absinthe part of the kit.

Need a better flask solution, the flasks I have been using don't hold up to storing absinthe for multiple years-- the BPA-free PET plastic gets cloudy and brittle. I had to throw out my older flasks. :-( And apparently they've doubled or tripled in price over the last N years too. Suggestions?

Old sadness flasks: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001LF3IGQ/
Possible replacement: https://smile.amazon.com/Nalgene-12-Oz- ... 001C1RQO4/

Would nalgene hold up better for long term storage of alcohol, or do I need stainless? Or should I just be storing the leftovers in glass and rinse/refill every year?

My big task from this past weekend was getting my bearings on my trailer repacked. The last owner apparently hadn't, and the guy doing it said I was headed for a catastrophic failure in the next few hundred miles

So many ways to play. Today's doing. A radio spot I submitted pushing a party for me that I won't be at. For me the fire will be in my heart. I love the Burn.

I packed my "Go Reno", "Go Playa", and "Go Home" ziploc bags that go in a separate duffel from the bulk of my clothing. I also got a bunch of pickle juice freeze pops and fruit smoothie freeze pops and put them in the freezer. We'll see how long they last on-playa. :-)

Just packed all my clothes except a few laundry items I'll do Monday. Will take them over to the bus to load up this weekend. Now I'm like, "what am I wearing for the next few days?!" LOL.

My nemesis in on the playa today, mocking me. That's an accomplishment of sorts, right?

2023 One Item A Day For Burning Event

Post by Traveller in Time » Wed Jan 25, 2023 2:25 am

(Where the Sheep Sleep, Local Dutch burn, Last days of June)

Next to the wave swing there will be a Newton Cradle, limited result with "Jeux de boules" :D

Vibrating plate for wave pattern generation. (Water, corn suspension, glass beads)

Lots of fog, light beams, mesh screens and glimmers for the few hours there is darkness.

Planning for a Da Vinchi Bridge to the Temple Island (kind of tensegrity structure)
Dreaming a temporary world improving the default world

Not expressing yourself but embracing all other expressions is The Challenge

...I can make anything I can imagine . . . I just can't make _some_ things happen

Have some Free will

I bought new brewing equipment for doing 10 gallon batches. Does that count?

I'll be bringing 5 kegs of homebrew.

Bump.

Brewed the first of several beers tonight. Smoke Bomb, a smoked chipotle porter. Always a crowd favorite on a cold Playa night.

5 X 200 Watt solar panels were just dropped off on my doorstep. I guess I should buy a Swiffer to keep them clean on the Playa (as if). That should be enough power to keep the margarita blender running.

For what it's worth, my solar set-up exceeded my needs as expected. It ran the camp Starlink 24/7, camp lighting, and various random loads like hot water kettle and such. I only took 800 Watts of panels and my batteries would draw down to around 70% over night & be fully charged in the afternoon. All of the components fit in to a plywood & steel box that sat on my trailer the whole event. Of note is my Rich solar panels seemed to be very sensitive to any shadows. In the future I'd probably orientate them so that an individual panel took most of the shading leaving the others in full sun. Or just avoid shadows. Not shown in the pic are two 4" louvered vents with HEPA filter material under them. Obviously the box had a lid & dust intrusion was minimal. Since the box was under a solar panel heat was never an issue.

In the future I'd make a lighter container since the box alone was probably over 70 Lbs. (all I had was 1/8' steel angle). I'd also move the disconnect to the outside of the box. Otherwise everything worked great. In the future if I choose to use Air Conditioning I'll make an additional array (600-1000W) that I can just plug in to a separate controller.
