other than mitm ...

I finally got around to reading my January Penthouse, and found an article entitled "Shock Therapy," subtitled, " The gritty underground world of machine art - where violence is exquisite, the audience is terrified, and the groupies are hot - is picking up speed. You sure as hell won't find these creations hanging in the Louvre."

Burning Man is mentioned as " ... a week-long experimental community and arts party in the Nevada desert that draws 40,000 each year." In the Hell on Earth sidebar which lists places to see machine art, Burning Man is number 4, "... sort of like an annual convention for the machine-art industry; the yearly festival ends with the torching of a 50-foot wooden statue. Go to Burningman.com and start figuring out how you'll get to Nevada."

Overall the article, which primarily focuses on Mark Pauline and SRL in SF and Christian Ristow in LA, was pretty good. I thought the "hipster hotties most men would do anything to bang" didn't need a mention, but it is Penthouse after all. I guess that's why the "half-naked girl in eight-inch black vinyl boots in pasty, doom-chick make-up" was included as she slunk by. What worries me is the "we're clueing you in so you can be an insider" vibe I picked up. Burning Man was NOT the main feature of the article, but it was prominent enough to give me pause. I think I even spotted a veiled reference to the Jiffy Lube sign. Am I just a herd animal closing ranks against outsiders? Anyone else see this article?

I imagine Bay Area folks would have more insight than I as to the accuracy of the reporting here.

At least they sent prospective yahoos to the site first, hmm?

Hmmm, the episode aired again and I recorded it for grins.

So, whatever happened to the petition? Did Malcolm ruin Burning Man? Did the sky fall, little chickens?
