In montana its legal to kill an intruder as long as he dies in your house. If he get outside and dies then it is not so.

I once used a nailboard in a dark hall way. Had strung up a cord so someone would fall on the nailboard as they walk in. Didn't know who to suspect but someone was getting into my office/home and stole an email from a young women who admitted she was underage and that she tried to set me up at the urging of some LEO.

Later, I found out from a friend that word had gotten out out about me have booby traps and the cops wouldn't enter my home when a landlord requested for them to do so. They wouldn't do for any reason. I was hoping to catch something else, but just because they have a badge doesn't make angels!!!! In a world were our government lie and kill for money and corruption lie in the heart of man, I was Glad to get the message into them!

Then I found a Bug so I set up something that wouldn't let anyone escape except Life!

You might want to check that.
Everyone says that here and it isn't exactly the law.
The standard is very different, though having something happen inside the house always helps.

Laws vary dramatically by state.
You can kill a thief in texas at night from rifle range.
Most states the standard has to do with fear of death.

Protection for people who use self defense needs to be strengthened considerably.
A burglar is always prepared to do violence.
They assume the risk of death.
That is not recognized in law adequately.

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.

i'm talkin about an old person here ..No family to speak of.. When you get old, bent and sick, you become afraid that you will lose your shelter..I adopted her into my family so she would have some one..

Even I check around when geting in/out of the car in parking lots..I watch who is standng close in a check out counter or the bank..Things I never noticed when i was young..

It did my heart good to read the news tonite..Three armed muggers stopped this bus tour and tryed to rob them..One guy my age took the one with the gun and snaped his neck..The rest of the tour took on the the other two..They run away..This was in South Am..The police said it was to bad about the dead one..The tour got back on the ship and left..

We had another home invasion of mexicans and the violence continued after the robbery.
I guess they wanted more money.
When they tried to shoot, one of the victims took a machete and cut his trigger finger off.
He was later arrested from the fingerprint.

My trainer has killed five armed robbers, without a weapon.
Three on one occasion, two on another.

Criminals will target anyone.

I was just wondering if it would be possible to rig up a dye bomb, kind of like the kind banks use to mark robbers, which would go off if anyone broke in. That and a hidden camera. Someone breaks in, gets coated with bright orange (or whatever color), laundry dye, and gets a mug shot of it happening. It'd be a bit hard for them to deny the breaking and entering if they are bright orange and someone has a tape of them being dyed!

Just a less risky option, law-wise.

The dye pack and tear gas can be done but they are hard to clean.
You can buy pepper in powder form.
Must be something interesting that can be done there.
They used to make tear gas in small glass vials that broke when a door was forced.

I hear cats are trained to guard houses in india.
They perch on a shelf and leap on intruders.

All fear the helicat.

I did realize you were talking about the problem you first posted.
What about the fence supply?

I would document everything with the police and change the locks and if they give you trouble, claim it is necessary, which it is.
They are responsible for all theft under these circumstances.
Remind them of that.

Do the paperwork.
Send copies to the church by mail with a return receipt.
I would send a copy to the news people and note that on the letters, but that's me.

Document everything.
Pictures, film if possible.
Everything.

If you catch one of those folks, usually the rest leave you alone.
Can you borrow a hidden camera?
Maybe the tv station would help for a story?
You can get a cheap one with memory for $100.
Low quality though.

Any chance of leaving someone inside secretly, while making a show of taking your friend somewhere?
Send a letter to the Church via registerd return reciept stating the problem and also stating the times that you have asked to have the problem fixed. Also detail the steps that you would take on your own but have been denied tou you by The church. Send copies, also by certified return reciept to the attorney general and maybe the local police also. Mention in the letter that you are sending a copy to the attorney general.

Be sure to include a second letter to the attorney general and the local police stating that you fear that you may be thrown out for complaining about the problem to the police. This second letter need not go to the bishop but should name him personally if he is the one who has refused to help you.

I am fairly certain that under Oregon law your friend has a lawsuit on her hands UJ. This website to find out more:
www.hud.gov/local/or/renting/tenantrights.cfm

You mentioned that she's older and lives alone, people having keys to her home sounds like a receipe (sp?) for disaster to me.Fucked up shit happens all the time, and it could be potentially deadly for her should the slimeball come into her home while she's there.

I hope your "shocking" surprise incapacitates this asshole long enough for him to be arrested.

From the Oregon Landlord/Tenant Act:

"May a landlord or real estate representative enter a rental unit without asking permission or giving the 24 hour notice?

Normally, the tenant must be notified by the landlord or real estate representative 24 hours in advance. There are certain exceptions for the landlord only: when there is an emergency; when it is "impracticable to contact the tenant;" or if there is a written "agreement to the contrary.""

Does your friend have such an "agreement to the contrary" with the church/landlord? If not, take BoxBurners approach.

I installed a counted on my little toy..So far in has been triped twice in two days..On the o'good side, the law has gotten involved..She is no longer treated as "some crazy old woman". We talked on the phone yesterday.. She felt safe enough to go out to the store and stop for a fish burger at Mc D's..Might not sound like much to most people..But for her it was a land mark in personal freedom..Iraq is not the only place a war is going on..I'm going to work on moving her closer to me..My kids will help if I ask..
