A couple of years ago, the JRS pointed out that treated gray water can be sprinkled in the street to keep dust down.

Filter your dishwater through cheesecloth (this was the JRS suggestion - I'd suggest using something finer, but whatever) into a bucket. Put a quarter cup of chlorine bleach per gallon of water in the bucket. Let it sit till the chlorine odor disappears, and the gray water is treated.

We keep large brown paper grocery bags springclamped down in the kitchen for burnable trash, yes, paper plates and paper towels. Also have a 55 gal drum with the big plastic heavy duty bags clipped in for wet trash which will go home with us. That we keep hidden, extra donations get annoying. We usually had two or three large bags of trash in the trailer, and maybe a few small bags if I mooped the potties, but they all return to Utah.

This is for a camp of 6 to 12 with plenty of visitors.

Avoid dish-washing, mylarry got very sick from a newbie wiping the plates clean with clorox wipes rather than boiling water and washing them. We're exclusively paper now because of that incident. We do use disposable plastic for some things, but it is one time use and we take them home dirty to wash and reuse.

Ewwww!! Poor thing - that sounds bad!!! (I mean... where did they get that idea? Ick!!)... We used to sanitize in bleachy water at RenFaire, but mainly did the paper thing unless it was for "show". These were the days before we did hot water washes... (Rather disgusting, now that I think about it!!)

We took our Kamp's trash to the Mustang Dump. Best deal going... and they got a kick out of us hauling toe porta-potties (full of our camp's bagged trash) there.

Also remember - Recycle camp takes empty cans. If you can get beverages in cans they will take them, and the proceeds go for a wonderful cause!

My teen-aged nieces were flaky idiots. They're no longer teenagers, but still flaky. Runs in the family.

Of course, one of our long-timers wanted to help, and didn't know how to do the dishes either, and headed straight for the wipes. Yikes.

And one of our newest newbs who's only been to three day regionals, wants to bring cast iron pans to heat up meals. Oh yeah. She's well intentioned, and actually a hard working, sharp asset to camp, but she just hasn't set boots in the dust yet. I know she'll get it, but the planning stages make me nervous. That's what you get with a campful of control freaks.

Couscous! Can't beat it! As long as you have a way to boil water, you're set.

Heavy to carry, requires washing unless you've got well seasoned pans which only require wiping out. Personally, my seasoned cast iron is too precious to me to take it to the playa.

We're trying to avoid washing dishes and pans to reduce both greywater and the danger of food poisoning.

Never take anything to the playa which you would hate to have lost, stolen or ruined. This includes relationships.

Ah, but then I'd have to acquire stainless steel. All I have is cast iron and heavy anodized aluminum, plus specialty pans for chocolate.

Easier to eat granola bars and jerky. Meh.

Campmor.com
Some good stuff.
Some garbage.
Some very light stainless steel.
A very good sun hat.

Build up a separate set for camping. After futzing with stainless camping crud, it's worth the weight and packing PITA.

The only non-cast things I have in my camping cooking crud is my aluminum coffee pot (missed out on the one good cast perker I found by 10 minutes 9 years ago, damnit!), my egg pan, and my heavy stainless Cevze for Arabic coffee. Other than that, why not?

Do not underestimate the culinary advantages of a flame thrower.

These handy little units can sear a steak in seconds, toast bread and bagels, fry fatless fritters, and deter early morning moochers.

Once you get past the petroleum flavor, it's a snap!

I recommend a few home cooked meals, frozen and in boilable bags. Lasagne, casseroles, etc. Snacks. Breakfast goodies: Eggs, hash brown patties. And bacon, of course.

Oh my... Coleman makes a propane powered oven. Not just the one you set on a burner, a real oven... Must have!

Anything that I can eat cold does for me. Power bars, mac and cheese, chicken broth. Coming from the UK means that I can't eally bring a stove with me.

Not that I eat much out on the playa anyway.

I'm a big fan of japanese food, and foilpacks of curry & pre-cooked rice can do no wrong in my book. Put the rice pak in the sun, and toss the curry in some boiling water & you're set. Especially good for the vegetarians, Tasty Bites come in a variety of flavors and are easy with very little clean up (especially since you'll leave the packaging at home.

I'm a giant foodie but I went low-pro this past year. Most of what I ate was stuff I made beforehand... tons & tons of pickles! Note to self: pickled beets are not to be repeated, as they're not very popular. Taste great in salads, tho.

I eat a lot of sausages in the middle of the night, and usually buy the aidells or other chicken/turkey pre-cooked variety. Brats are my fave but lend to more grease & I hate cleanup. I line my grill with foil so it's easy to deal with, but still.

Also, my ultimate favorite playa treat is gazpacho. I raid the local markets for ripe yummy tomatoes, red peppers & onions and some cukes and toss em all in my food processor (sans seeds of course) and then into the freezer. Nothing hits the spot on thursday afternoon than an icy cold cup of gazpacho - with or without the vodka.

this post is making me want to go cook.

I don't think I've had a chance to try gazpacho.
Reminds me of 'Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown'.
Gazpacho starred in that.

A lot of things remind me of that film though.
