I have several Cobra & Motorola FRS/GMRS sets. None of them was more than $100/pair, the Motorolas were $70/pair. The majority of their use is in forested valley conditions, far worse for line of sight than the playa. We've been able to bounce 5w GMRS signal out of the bottom of the valley to town 10 miles away.

Personally, the only radio I use is on burn night as Helmsman for Oregon Fire Conclave. I go digitally naked out there. It's also the only time I ever wear a watch.

I don't care what the borg says: feather-wearers will NOT be served in Rosie's Bar.
When I ask how many burns, I mean at BRC.
