I do feel I've seen as vitriolic, damning, hateful speech and ill-intent aimed at others here as you'll find anywhere, print, internet or tv.........

and so, felt it somewhat hypocritical to point at that as any reason to defend others actions or words toward a particular person......

Just some observations........

nothing better that biting, witty (in my case 1/2 witty) repartee and debate.......it's invigorating.........as evidenced by your avatar.........hahhaahaha

I haven't gone over every post on eplaya, and to the best of my recollection I don't recall any of that vitriolic, damning, hateful speech and ill-intent aimed at others you are referencing--at times when I thought that posts had crossed that 'line'; it seems that there was always a realization and at least a softening of the tone if not an apology.

If there is a post that has been truly hateful to anyone on eplaya that has not been resolved, I really would appreciate you pointing it out (even if it turns out to be one of mine!).

That, to me, is the difference between what I have noticed here and what comes out of Coutler's mouth--no remorse or redemption of any sort.

But I think, once again, our differences here are minute.

I was more referring to posts on eplaya aimed at public figures and such, mostly people in the news.
I, as you, find most here are pretty ok towards eachother........

If either one of them could go down the street tomorrow and make more money being liberals, they'd be gone in a New York minute. One could understand if she were ignorant and uneducated. She is smart enough and educated enough to know that what she spouts is drivel. So what is really pitiful about her is that she will sell that kind of ignorance and hate for money. It shows a rotten core, I think.

i wonder if she believes it. i doubt it ... she made that comment on 9/13/01, and it is the sort of thing that just pops out after experiencing something like 9/11 ... more emotional than anything else.

i think that if you took the most outrageous comments spewed from the mouths of *any* pundit or political figure, remove the context, and repeat it ad nauseam - while ignoring the substance of what they are really trying to say - you are going to miss a great deal. both sides do this to their least favorite people, of course.

True, there are plenty of publicity whores on both sides of any issue. But lets look at that statement, blah blah blah and KILL their leaders. Now, I will sit and listen to anyone's opinion all day and will listen, think and then give them mine. But when a person backs up their theory with the word "KILL", then there is a certain amount of deep end being gone off of here. There are plenty of less than "all there" people who listen to this stuff and when they hear that kind of verbage coming across the airwaves aren't smart enough to know that this is NOT permission to settle their issues with violence. We saw some of the statements shouted out about Obama at Palin rallies. Words matter, a real journalist, or a thinking person doesn't throw that kind of tripe out there.

So there are two possibilites here, either she really does believe in the validity of that statement, which shows a really obnoxious, violent and skewered view of what we are as a county or, she doesn't believe it, but knows it sells.

Either way, it's very bad and I don't hear that kind of language from just about anybody on either side.

"Kill" is not an acceptable word from people who have influence over others.

i just googled "kill george bush" and got a ton of hits. liberals ... actors, comedians, peace prize winners, &c.

i hear such comments all the time, from both sides, and all over the world. i do not like it any more than you do, but it is what it is. i know a lot of people who like ann coulter, and they are not feeble minded robots. if she persisted in pushing such an argument, i suspect that her books *would* stop selling. but one stupid comment at such an emotional time ... ?

If you want to turn to your husband or friend and say, we should kill all those fuckers, that's your business. When you utter it on national television then that is a responsibility. That is ADDING to the hate and violence, that is sending a message to people who may be verging on violence that indeed, violence is an acceptable way to settle differences. We, all of us, what we say is an indication of where our thoughts and souls are. It was such a blanket indictment of a whole part of the world. again ... you can pull stupid quotes, out of context ... they are often very tongue-in-cheek ... from pundits and politicians on both sides. that doesn't mean it's who they are.

i have never read her books, or seen her on TV, or followed her blogs. have you? can you really say that you know who she is from a few quotes? i find that the context can be extremely important with pundits ... and tend to be wary of pull quotes ... but that's a general intellectual caution. complete arguments are more interesting than quotes, but also far more work. it is easy to find a reason to hate people you want to disagree with ... and, as ygmir says, both sides do it ....

I have, and in my opinion she knows what she's doing. She's being an incendiary that fires up the hate wing of the Republican party. She chooses her words for effect and does not care at all about their accuracy.

What I don't know is how much she believes what she says. Colbert says outrageous things, but makes it clear that they are comedy. Coulter says hateful things, but does she really hate? Sometimes I think that she is akin to an amoral sock puppet, and sometimes I think that she's utterly delusional. I suppose that a case could be made for both.

In any case, I don't wish her ill, but I certainly don't wish her any success.

Sure, Talking Heads on both sides make inflammatory statements........
neither one more or less than the other, except, in the eyes of their ideologues.........supporters or detractors........who say things like "oh, he's way worse" or, "she's the worst ever", and, thinking "way worse than my guy"........but, both are bad.......

I don't necessarily defend either side, but, do tend to point out if one is singled out from others that are exactly the same.......
of course, there are specific differences, and, subtle ones....
but, they, IMHO, are all the same.......
The right has their favorites, the left theirs.....but, if you step outside those "boxes" and, look, they are the two sides of the same coin........

there are too many pundits to read them all. i do not have the time ... and so, i pick and choose what i want to read. someone gave me one of coulter's books. i couldn't get very far. it's not my thing. i am much happier on aldaily.com.

I was enjoying just reading and staying out of this; but I have to say that IMO the extremes of either party do not deserve to be defended. And anyone that includes words such as 'kill', 'fag', and any other divisive pejoratives should be immediately called out for it. There is no excuse for this rhetoric and it should not be condoned.
